mystery motor

    im trying to figure out the idenity of this motor and ****** i ended up with.
    im guessin its an olds, it was in a destroyed 40 coupe (ill post pics of that later)

  4. That's a Pontiac motor. The tag on the trans tells the year - P58, seems like someone just posted the decode on those that the 58 = 1958. The cannister filter supports that (59 or older), as does the motor mount arrangement (58 or older).

    So it's most likely a '58 370 - I'd open it and see if any of the guts are useable, those cranks and blocks dont' grow on trees anymore. I've seen worse that were buildable inside -

    If it has any stamped numbers on the right front of the block, or cast numbers over the center exhaust port, post them up and I can get a decode for you.

    If that thing has been setting witht he carb open and the oil fill tube open its gotta be full of water.
    I had a 52 F1 I found that was as full as possible with water. It had all the rain water since about 1971 go right down the carb.

    thanks fellas,hopefully i can find somone that wants it(for free) i hate to just let it ruin totally, or ill just clean it up and paint it, use it as a piece of art
