I got a 47 dodge pickup and I put it in storage. Unfortunately, I forgot how to start it. What I think I remember is that I had to push the brake or clutch the the start pedal while in neutral. I could have sworn I had to push do something w the shifter. However I don’t have the previous owners number to find out. I charged the battery and still couldn’t get it to turn over. Other electronics work so I know it’s not the battery. I’m going to take my multimeter to see if I’m getting enough power. I need suggestions and tips please!
Unless the PO installed something, like a push button, clutch switch, etc, you should just be able to turn the key on, pull out the choke and push down on the start pedal.
I have to say, it made me chuckle a little when you said you forgot how to start your truck. LOL Sent from my VS835 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I think maybe you didn't forget... and it's just not working correctly? And you thought you forgot. [emoji16] Sent from my VS835 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Yeah brotha. I just recall that the experience was different w positioning my feet and that could be because of the start pedal above the gas pedal. But I think it may be a power issue because I’m not getting a crank.
Keys on bc the electric pumps on but I’m going right now to try again. Hopefully I get I figured out.
If I recall, on the last foot start I had, it would crank over without the key being on. The battery connected directly to the starter, via the foot pedal, really just a manual solenoid if you will. If that's the case in yours as well, you should have battery voltage at the started at all times. How long has it been sitting? If a few years, might be best just starting off by cleaning all battery connections, both on the terminals and their mounting spots, both pos and neg. At least rule that out and you know you have good connections in the future.
@tramp63 I was tempted to reply...”just pedal it really fast and when you get it to 10 mph or better, drop it in gear and pop the clutch”......but then I thought that sounded a little smart ass like and decided not to...... Glad you got some good advice...... Ray
All good advice above, key on or off, stomp on the pedal and will crank over, key will supply power to the coil. It is a 6 volt positive ground system, and often poor grounds cause issues. A fully charged battery and good ground connections then report back.
I tested the battery and it only held a 4v charge. So I think your advice is on point about starting w a fresh battery. As for the rest, you guys have me cracking up lol
Truck is rebelling. Pissed you put her in storage. Cars seldom play nice coming out of storage. All sorts of weird phenomenon-from traveling zero miles.

Sometimes tapping on the starter with a hammer, tap, not pound, helps. I had a truck that sat a lot and had to do that every so often.
If its got a starter pedal, put it in neutral turn on the switch and mash the starter pedal. You'll probably have to choke it.
Good news it was the battery and the clutch depressed with stater pedal. Sounded strong! So happy! Thanks all
Well, it appears that my previous post has suddenly taken a turn I wasn't expecting. . . . OK. Maybe I was kind of expecting it.
I could go on, but don't think it's a good day to get banned from the HAMB But I'm picturing a ....never mind, M and M's don't...grrr, never mind...
