I’ve had this for years and never knew what it was for. I believe I pulled it from a 42-48 Buick trunk that I robbed taillights out of probably 15 years ago. It has written on it Buick to something. Buick straight 8 to chevy maybe?
Looks to be a Nailhead (364, 401 or 425) to manual (4sp), this is a Bendtsen's adaptor however bolt pattern for transmission is slightly different.
I can't find the pattern for the older Chevy transmissions (54 and earler car and 47 and earler truck) but that may adapt to that closed drive trans. Someone has to have a transmission or bellhousing handy to measure though. I had a 54 nailhead that I was going to swap into a 50 Chevy hardtop back in 1966 and couldn't manage and adapter or stick setup.
Yes that's mine on the right. Man that's a old picture. That was back when I was Driving the old Red Peterbuilt. Ive also got a Offenhauser adapter that adapts a 322 to a ford flat head trans or mini bell. I don't think your bell is for a 364 or 401. I pictured a 56 Pontiac 316 bell.
It appears to be a Lasalle with the right top ear offset and the step for the candlestick insertion. The center ****** is the 37 lasalle. However, there is no hole in the face of the bell for the shift rail that will protrude when shifting gears.
That was my first thought. However, that would also require the hole for the shift rail that Walt referred to above. Your bellhousing is definitely intended to be used with the ‘candlestick’ TO bearing tube common to GM manual transmissions/bellhousing (except Chevy) from the late ‘30s thru the mid/late ‘50s. Ray
It’s a trans dapt adapter. It is an HC 53-56 nailhead. Here’s a trans dapt manual on eBay that looks like it would have the answer if I could read it. Guy wants more than I’m willing to pay to find out. Anyone have one of these old manuals?
I have a transdapt catalog. I will go locate it after dinner. Food always comes first, u know how that works.
I have a trans dapt catalog but all the 322 buick adapters are listed HC. there are more numbers after that for what trans it goes to. what are the rest of the numbers on yours??
My catalog sheets list the HC version for 53-56 all with a foot note stating that one must use the Chevy 6 pressure plate #3772926. Looking further into the trans diagrams it says the bolt pattern you have shown above is the large Buick case with the 6 bolt top cover. Commonly found in 37/38 Century's. This ****** can be upgraded with a later 51-59 Olds ****** gear gut to provide a killer ****** although it is still a non synchro first. I am running one behind my Olds, @F&J has one in his 32 with an Olds and I don't recall how many @Paul has in his horde and behind his engines. F&J did a tech on the conversion. Pretty straight forward deal. Here is pic of one of Pauls engines with the 37 ****** attached that he had on another thread last week.
sometimes in small letters on the inside but it would seem that it should follow the HC. My catalog sheets don't look anything like the above. Might be an old listing. It only shows the HC, HD,HE,HF and the HG with a couple foot notes.
I don’t see anything. I didn’t even see HC just saw that row on the list and know it’s 53-56 nailhead. Makes sense I pulled it from a 42-48 Buick so they most likely had this to put a nailhead with the stock transmission. Doesn’t sound like something I’m going to have any use for anytime soon so may send it down the road to someone else.
