I am putting a 2001 Jeep Cherokee rear in a 1947 Dodge 1/2 ton P/U and I am looking for lower rear shock mounts from a 1948-1956 Dodge P/U as I am told that they use a 3" diameter axle tubes. Or does anyone have another idea on what to use? Thanks!

All the production Mopar car and light truck axle tubes that I know of are 3" diameter. Are you mounting the axle above the springs (like a car to lower the rear of the truck) or are you putting the axle below the springs like most trucks are mounted? Most of the 50s -70s shock mounts are part of the spring plate that the U bolts go through, but some of the shock brackets are welded to the axles. What are you looking for? How was the shock attached to the Cherokee axle, can you use that shock mounting system? I have a few different spring shock plates that the axle is above the springs, here if you can use them. Gene
I am mounting it below the spring as the factory did. The Jeep shock mount is totally different. The original mount goes around the axle tube and the shock connects to that. I was told that a lower shock mount from a 1953 (so I figured 1948-1956 half ton would be the same) fit perfectly, so that is what I would like to find.
The truck that I am working on is a 1947 WC, based on what several people have told me. I know that the next series is called Pilot House.
Sorry, can't help you with that. I have a 49 Dodge frame sitting here, but someone swapped in a newer axle ***embly and they used the shock plate with the spring below the axle. Having been under a lot of Dodge trucks in my days, I suspect the rear shock mount used on the 48-56 probably carried forward through until the 93 model year on full sized trucks, but you probably need to look at 3/4 ton axle ***emblies, or the 4x4 axle ***emblies. Many of the later versions (after 71-72) of the 2wd 1/2 ton pickups have the spring under the axle, but all the 3/4 ton and all the 4x4s have the axle under the spring. I don't have an example of either sitting here right now. Gene
I think just head to a junkyard and see what you can find, knowing what you need. Take a tape measure of course, wire brush, and a 1/2 inch drive socket set with breaker bar if a you pull it type junkyard. It doesn't have to be a 53, or even Dodge. Most of our local junkyards are GONE. I can use a new spring perch and a Camaro lower shock plate but I was hoping that someone had the Dodge shock mount as it is a direct fit and just bolts up.
