Clark- or I guess anyone experienced......I need some input on my Sub chassis . I am trying to pick components now and am wanting to use anything I can that I HAVE....[for obvious reasons].I was wondering if in your worldly travels in S-10 swap circles where in the wide wide world of sports does an s-10 steering box[power] end up in relationship to the stock 55-59 chevy truck [[[[RADIATOR SUPPORT]]]]]]?????With my wide wheels I am using I believe the front will suit my purpose perfect -EXCEPT for a bolt pattern redrill[ thats another question?]but this area where box encounters the cradle is a concern . also the re-drill I would need 5 on 4-1/2"ford pattern-THANKS IN ADVANCE GUYS.......
Maybe I can help! I used a 48 radiator thanks to Johnylonghair. I fabed a frame around it. For the sides I used angle and square tubing at the base. That aloud me to use origanal mounting wholes from radiator. I am heading over to work on the truck again this week. Let me know if you would like some pics. I think Sowhat used a core out of something else. Infact I know he did just can't rember what. I think 55-59 Chevy cores are the same as 48.
THESE SEEM TO HAVE A LITTLE MORE LENGTH FROM FIREWALL TO RADIATOR THAT THE 48 THRU54'S i JUST WONDERED IF ANYONE HAD AN S10 FRAME UNDER A 55 OR NEWER[59 TRUCK] SO I CAN SEE WHERE THE BOX ENDS UP IN RELATON TO RADIATOR SUPPORT SO iLL KNOWE HOW FAR UP I CAN STEP THE FRAME CLIP[SORRY CAPS!]
Choprods....Can you hear me now???? Never saw an S-10 under a 55-59 Chevy truck. I'm curious about the width. The 55 and up is a little wider than the 48s I think. I have seen lots of Camaro clips in the later models. I'll measure from the front of my box to the centerline of the front wheels tomorrow. I'll also try to get a track width on it. I would think with both the Camaro and the S-10 you'll have to make a new radiator cradle. The option you do have with the later body style is running a crossflow (wider rad with tanks on the side) radiator wich are cheap. Clark
Yeah Clark you sound kindy BUZZY"- I think I am ok on the distance lengthwise- I was wondering if anyone could show me how close [up and down vertically it would be to the bottom of the radiator framework.Yeah I am planning on using these wheels[Bullitt Mustangs17by NINE!----So they will eat up some of the "narrowness"....even tho it should still be a lil' narrow -and that is good as I am lowering it almost 8"from stocker height!
Do those wheels have a lot of back spacing? If so it may make it look too narrow and you may be better off with the Camaro sub. Clark
You will most likly need wheel spacers. Mustang wheels for late model are medium and some a hi positive ofset. No big deal just looking out. This will also solve the bolt patern problem.
I'll get some measurements on the height on mine. If you are subbing it you can make a little bit of adjustments in height where you but the two frames together. Clark
from hubsurface to outer sidewall of mounted tire is 4-1/2"/they dont worry me as much as not having room for a radiator.............
Yes I thought that too/maybe I can work it as close as I dare and if lowering is still needed I could buy 2" spindles.ALSO- what is the actual hub to hub width of an S-10?
thanks Lulabelle/I have a rolling s-10 frame here as a donor- I just wanted to see a pic of one on a pickup like a 55-59 chev.
I posted this picture the other day. It is an S 10 frame I set up to a 48/53 sheetmetal. I had to section the radiator support and use a Mustang radiator. You can see the radiator support mount between the frame rails and just in from the steering box.
