Badly rusted/pitted bumpers, what to do?

Any ideas about how to revive badly pitted bumpers. All I am looking for is to make them paintable. I hit them with 80 paper on a DA sander, got rid of the loose stuff, now the pits are the problem. I just want 'em flat to paint.
    Thanks,
    Bob

You'll either have to remove enough material in the area to remove the pit, or you can fill in the pits and smooth. Since you're just going to paint, its the equivilent to doing body work on a panel.

If you blast it you can paint it.
If you don't blast it, it will cover lousy and be first area paint fails in.
got to have clean metal to make anything stick well.

I've heard of people silver soldering(sp) Duval windshield frames before chroming.....after you blast it or have it blasted you could try that...

It would take a lot of solder and filing, but would be chrome-able.....

If your going to paint it just use some filler and sand it smooth.

then the answer is "send them to the chrome shop"

or "run them as is", which is what I seem to do.

  10. I love it :) :) In my oppinion you only have two options with chrome, leave it chrome (no matter the condition, like mine!!) or remove it!!

I've been looking around for advise on the same thing. What would you use to fill them with?

Seems to me that if you blasted them and practiced your leading on them you could shoot them and everything would be cool. Gumpa

Good old Rage Gold...nothing else needed...(save a bit of sealer, some primer and some paint)...and take the chrome off first.
