I'm working on old 59-60 build that started out as a 55 Crown Vic. I'm pretty sure the 10 bolt rear in it is not Fomoco. It has a bolt pattern like a Dana 25/30 series. I found a casting number 18419 on the housing. I'm enclosing photos of the unit and what the brakes look like. I'd like to identify a year range-probably Mopar if I determine that's what I got-to get some brake hardware etc. Would you all agree it is not a Ford rear end? Thanks for any help
Scrape the crap off the center housing, look for a cast number like 40 or 44 or 44-1 or something. Either on the top/front behind the pinion yoke, or on the bottom web below where the axle tubes go into the center casting. It's probably a Dana/Spicer, and that number will be the model. What's the wheel bolt pattern?
this mite help this is a chart from Speedway Motors = mite half to enter from Speedways site http://static.speedwaymotors.com/images/charts/Axleflange.gif hope this helps
Looks to be a Dana 41,Ford used them in 1949-56 F-1 Ford Trucks and 1952-54 Ford station wagons the 1955-56 Ford wagons went to the Dana 44. Look for this code.
Here is casting number I mentioned-I Found 18419 stamped in housing-can one assume the '41' refers to Dana 41
Thought we'd take it up a notch. Education while self-isolating. This is a the rear end of a Thompson's Gazelle. Not sure if it's named after Mickey.
It's an old, greasy rear axle, 5 lug, probably worn out, and hard to get parts for. And if it was desirable, would've been obvious
Looks like a stock Ford to me. The 55 pumpkin style had a tendency to howl a bit . Maybe the original owner got a dealer to replace it under warranty and the put in a wagon to shut him up. Looks like it’s been there a long time.
Thanks to all that helped me out. found the Dana 44 markings on it. It appears to be of 55-56 Ford era and brakes are 1.75 in. -Sedan variety not wagon. I'm on my way to a brake job with proper parts.
Looks like the rear end of 1967 Jeep J3000 pickup truck. That would be a Dana 44. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
