Pilot, Death by Bunga Bunga, Plain Skull...... I can't decide. For now we're running the Pilot though. Thanks, JH
aww,the greatness of 'hand' casted parts.... that thing is awesome...i hadn't seen one of his on an actual car yet...
i just got four of em and was showing them to my oldest son (25) he loved the pilot so i gave it to him. now i'm going to have to order up another one....all the cool stuff on the hamb is gonna make me go broke.
next batch is comin fellas. been casting waxes for a while and will start to get them sprued up soon. i'll pour before the end of the month. i had intended to pour around this weekend, but i've had alot more orders than i anticipated on top of sculpting a few more new ones, so there we be. anyways, thanks alot for the compliments, and stay tuned for a spy shot or two of the new stuff. also gonna do a pretty killer HAMB auction piece soon, too...
chromedrat - where do you stand on personal customization of your skulls? are you ok with adding patina? you've obviously gone to a great deal of effort finishing these. But i couldn't help noticing from the pic above how some rust or further patina might help them blend in with more trad rods that aren't real refined in their finish. Thoughts? Idea's if your ok with that? "Got to hell and never post to me again, 49Lincoln!" ??????? What say yea? 49Lincoln
i know what your sayin'. I added the part about telling me to go to hell. i just thought there may be a simple way to add some patina before someone starts spraying stove black or sandblasting these things. they just look so good. they're awesome. probably would be way harder to cast in steel. but would be cool to see them age. i'll go away now. please don't cancel my order for a complete set of one each. (that's how much i love these!) consider me sufficiently bitch slapped. 49Lincoln
shit, man, consider me sufficiently exhausted! did the goodguys thing yesterday and spent today in the shop. as for patina, if somebody wanted a raw beadblasted skull, i'd do that. they kinda already have a "patina" look with the black acrylic. another way to speed up the aging is to just request that i don't clearcoat them. the rust i probably wouldn't do unless it were on a part of the piece that is supposed to be steel. being aluminum it'd conflict i think. the dougboy helmet might look cool with some rust though. i dig personalizing them alot, actually. makes it a bit more fun. overall, i think my style fits the traditional car. parts of fingerprints, sculpting tool marks and etc. are always with my pieces because i work with wax and i like the look. had the opportunity to see some high end shifter knobs at goodguys and i still like the slight roughness my pieces have. the other fellas have some nice stuff, but when i first wanted to make my own shifter knob because i put a 4 speed in my formerly powerglide equipped impala, i wanted it to look real and have a rugged quality. nothing totally smooth or refined. that and i work in metal. on that subject, what's everybody think of the weight? all of them except for maybe the fireman are 8 oz. or under, gotta be in the ballpark of a hurst T handle, especially once drilled. i think they lose an ounce when drilled. might have picked up some dealers at the show, too. been thinkin about that alot the last two days. they'll be retailing them and will of course mark them up. i wouldn't mind branching out and selling to the general public at some point, and would match dealers' prices then, but i still intend to cut the HAMB a helluva break in pricing. i think that's only fair. we're small enough and "members only" enough that it wouldn't hurt dealers' business. besides, if you guys on here know who i am at all, you'd probably buy from me anyway... my prices to you guys will stay pretty much the same aside from material costs. i'm going to have to do some figuring before this next pour. i spoke with my dad and the ceramic shell and propane costs have gone up again. it shouldn't be any more than 5$ more per piece, so no need to freak out. i'm gonna hit the sack now, i've got some serious work to do this week and this weekend's damn-near knocked me the hell out.
Until you see these in person you have no idea how cool they are. On Saturday at the meet and greet he was nice enough to show them to us. Wow!! As for them looking patina'd, they've got plenty right out of the mold!
I also got to see 'em at the meet and greet. WAY OUT CRAZY MAN!!!. The detail on them is incredible. Only problem is the only vehicle I got to put one in is a non hamb camaro which is definitely not KOOL enough for one of his great skulls. Damn does that mean I should rush out and buy another car?, since I'm down to ONLY 5 now. Think I am getting the shakes now
Got mine today, you are a true artist Josh! If you guys aren't in line yet, I don't know what yer waiting for!
I have one of each and I'm awaiting a fireman to put in my firetruck. Josh is also doing a couple of one offs for me, and I'm totally stoked. He is one talented individual. Doc.
