I wonder if anyone has done a ‘59 Edsel front clip on a Ranchero? Of course I have no idea if it would fit.

What did mild custom trucks look like as daily drivers, push trucks and parts delivery trucks in 1957-59? Whitewalls, black rims and small smooth center hubcaps was the look of the day. Not too flashy, but shows style and cool looks for a daily driver.


Eldon Dye had many different drag racing cars throughout his time period in So Cal. All of the Comp Coupes had supercharging guru, Donny Hampton driving. We saw his early brown Competition Coupe at Lions Dragstrip in 1958-60 and at the 1959 Riverside Raceway East Vs West match, he showed up with both cars, the new one being a blue/white racing stripe Competition Coupe. What was pushing the Comp Coupe down the dragstrip for the fire-up run? A 1957-58 Ford Ranchero was the push truck of the day.

But, then in 1960, when we went to the at the 2nd annual Bakersfield Smokers March Meet, the push truck was a different Ranchero with a custom grille.

I traded this '46 Ford project straight across

for a '57 Ranchero a few years back. The Ranchero had sat since the 90's and at some point had been slightly customized. Someone had installed a 302 and C4 out of a '78 or '79 F150 but never finished it. I wound up having the heads gone through and put the front of the motor together with the correct rotation water pump and it actually ran pretty good! Went thru the carb, radiator and had a driveshaft made up and ended up with a decent driver. In a weak moment, I let it go to a guy that obviously wanted it more than I did...





I probably should of kept it and finished it! Wouldn't mind having another...

 

In regards to the Edsel question, there is a black one in Oklahoma that is well known is this part of the country. He changed the dash also. One of the 1st ever done is 50 miles away from me in a small town. I remember seeing it more than 30 years ago. The pics are buried or I would post them.

 

Here it is when it was built in the late 50s in MN.

 

Does anyone have any current info on this? Licensed in Oregon. The person that built its current form would love to get it back. Any help appreciated. Thank you.
