I recently aquired a reasonably low mileage buick wildcat with a 401 nailhead and a barrel carb it has about 54,000 miles and runs fairly well but I figured I'd check the compression yesterday. The drivers side cylinder bank had good compression all between 110 and 120 psi but the p***enger side bank was all between 90 and 100 psi the numbers are consistent for each bank and I'm not sure why one side would be more worn than the other so I'm unsure what could be causing this and if anyone ever experienced anything like this? Dry or wet? Foot down carb ****erfly’s open? Battery fully charged while doing the test All spark plugs removed ?
^2x, are the heads the same casting number? Do a leak down test to see if the rings or valves are leaking.
I once had a 440 mopar with a similar dilemma, heads were the same part number but the combustion chambers were about 15 cc different side to side.
Wet plugs were in just removed the plugs as I did them and it's a brand new battery Sent from my SM-G960U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Wet plugs ? Wet with fuel or oil? acompressiontest is done both with dry cylinders and with squirting a few drops of oil and doing it wet If compression goes up with the addition of oil it usually means your rings or cylinders are worn if the dry and wet numbers stay the same it indicates valves are all 8 plugs out and a battery charger connected? Also are you cranking the engine of the same amount of times on each cylinder
