New to the site and wanted to say hello, 4.5 years in to my 51 Plymouth Cranbrook build hopefully it will be finished by the end of the year.

 

wow now thats inspirational. i have a 51 plymouth as well. i might have some questions about your build. is the first picture how you bought it or had it before?

 

Hi & welcome. Looking great. My 50 Plymouth just got new gauges and a few wiring changes and is now into replace rockers & repair the below trunk strip across the back & will soon be back on the road. Hopefully in a couple of weeks. Jimmie

 

where did you get your gauges from? that's going to be my next purchase, actually.

Hi. I found that the dash holes for gauges on the 50 Plymouth are in between gauge sizes & has 3.75" holes for gauge bodies. On all the aftermarket gauges I could find in the style I wanted and what I could find in gauges I liked all had 3 5/8" bodies with a 3.75" flange on face so they would just fall thru the dash. To make this work I went to a local plastics company makes all kinds of industrial plastic piping flanges and fittings & has all kinds of shapes & sizes of plastic stock & purchased a piece of white round stock that was just over 4.25 " diameter. Took it to my buddy who is a retired machinist and he bored it 3 5/8" and trued the outside to 4.25" diameter and then used cut off tool and cut rings that were 1/4" thick. He made me 2 of these for each gauge and I slipped one down gauge body to front flange and slipped gauge into dash hole, slipped another flange down to back of dash and installed gauge clamp & tightened it down. Done this way an external ground wire was necessary to ground the gauges.
I purchased the gauges and electrical senders from Jegs. I have some of the plastic round stock remaining but it is at my buddies house about 50 miles away and with all the lockdowns due to the virus I cannot go get it right now. I have no clue if my buddy is willing to make more right now but I could ask and it would be easy to mail the finished ring adapters. But I will need accurate measurements of the gauge bodies. Sometimes we just have to improvise.
