Alas, my poor computer, is old...I mean real old in computer age, its
    running at 233mhz, with a 4gig hard drive and only 96mb ram....so I
am somewhat limited. Did this one using a combo of three different
    softwares.

    Very cool.

I have tons of my prints waiting to be framed. Framing take $eriou$ bone$.

  18. Cool. I just picked up a really good Elvgren book in the Barnes and Noble as-is bin for $9.99.

    Going "Old School" Digital...

I went back into my archives to dig this one up. I know I am still a FNG around here so this one will give you a little more background on me. The example below was a piece I did for AMT/Ertl a few years back (1993 to be exact). I used to be one of a stable of illustrators that helped with Model Kit Instruction Sheets. The attached samples were a**** the first that were digitally illustrated... For those of you who know your graphics software, the samples below were done in AI 3.0...

Very cool Dave. I have only been using AI for almost a year and a half now and can apreciate the work. Plus you did it in AI 3! I was building those models about that time in 93. The directions were very easy to build from. I was 19!
    Welcome!

I'd be interested to see your layout process for doing signs like this... I'm not an artist, but I play one on TV... ;) I've always been fascinated by sign painters, ever since my first job at a drug store, where the sign guy would come in overnight, and paint the windows.

Thanks Zumo and Travez... I started working in AI when it was called Illustrator88 any guess why they called it that?... Think I might be showing my age here! The worst part about the early AI programs was that you could not preview the files while you were working and there were no layers... Had to keep track of your colors and layers while viewing the file in outline mode... I am using AI CS2 now and we did not have near the tools, filters, color pallets available which is why many folks were still doing traditional art back then... Glad to here that you young guys were able to use the instructions easily, we had to build the kit ourselves to know what to draw for the next step... I used to do some of the decals and tampo artwork for the Ertl American Muscle series of die-cast cars back then too...

Thanks for the complements and warm welcome guys...

Wow. Again, Good to have you here. Outline mode! Jeez! I can't imagine. Back then I would have never thought twice about the work you did because I was jus building models. It's really cool to understand now what it took to do that.

dangeroustoy-- thanks for the walk down memory lane! I started using AI in version 3.0, right before they went to 3.2... (On Mac SE' and IIci rigs) so I do know a bit of what you're talking about. Sounds funny to mention "old school" and "digital" together! :D

  26. Here's a couple I did this week:

The Day-Glo platter I picked up at a yard sale. The first pic shows the bottom and it looks like it is striped in ivory.Turn it over and you can see the actual color(slime green).I love the way this stuff,"edge glows".

The second is a 1/18th scale diecast for my son done in two shades of purple with a Swirly-Q.

The last is a portion of a side stripe I'm working on plus a name on the trunk.

No, "old school" digital would be Illustrator 88. What a pain in the *** program. "Old School" digital is getting a school loan for $8000 for my first Mac. Wow, I'm old... :D

Nice work guys and welcome to the new guys.
Speaking of Illustrator, I still have old copies on the shelf.

Blue box on left, one binder for video tape second binder for V1 manual. Installed with one floppy disk, pink box V3.2 installed with three floppies. I used the original versions of MacPaint and MacDraw.

I'll dig back a couple years for this 32 done in Illustrator.
