Ok, so the "coolest looking V8" thread got me thinking about all the different neat things I have fallen in love with in the rod world. What are the coolest grills out there that you would put on a hot rod. Factory made or not...

For me its got to be the 36-37 terraplane

although much over-used over the years, i've always loved the 54 Desoto grille....

I like a 32 grill shell. But also have gained a affection or is that infection for 39 ford truck grill. Looks like a catcher's mask

  8. A few votes for my favorite kustom grilles. Late 30s Packard or LaSalle. Here's a picture of a '38 LaSalle grille (courtesy of Rikster's Custom Archive--THE BEST Custom website on the planet!) Also, a LaSalle grille in an old Mopar, and a bomb style '36 Packard. E

Pines Winter front on a 32 Ford is pretty cool. It looks real industrial.

Some grills look great on some cars, and horrible on others. I'm a big fan of Whippet shells. But my modified will run this sectioned and narrowed '37 truck grill. I LOVE '37 truck shells...

I wanted to put a '36 Studebaker Dictator grill in my '36 Ford. Never found one.

The chopped, double-ended '34 Pontiac grille in Isky's roadster is very cool.

52 - 56 Aussie Dodge grilles look good with indicators removed and replaced with bullets. DeSoto grilles are good looking but overused.

  25. 59 Pontiac, 36 Pontiac, sorry no photos.

I'm doctoring my A grille with a '61 Rambler American insert - cut in two, and overlapped in the middle. It's not quite long enough, though, I should have started with a pair of them.

59 Imperial and '60 Chrysler New Yorker look pretty good, too (the '60 ended up the '61-2 grille, flipped 180' with different bars). The 56 Olds grille isn't a bad piece either.

Trouble with rating grilles is I may as well just list the cars I like best, in a lot of cases, the grille is usually the first thing you see as a car comes by you, so if I like the car I usually like the grille too.

Thanks sweetie! My AWESOME looking chrome is thanks to Steve Tracy at Advanced Plating. Now that I'm older and wiser:rolleyes: I can see the difference in the quality from the other shops I have used in the past. I can't imagine ever using anyone else besides Advanced in the future.

A quality prep and chrome job can really make or break the look of a grill. This area is not a place to scrimp on. It's usually the first area of a car that catches someones eye.
