PRESS RELEASE Greg Wapling DLRA President Dry Lakes Racers Australia PO Box 349, Castlemaine VIC 3450 info@dlra.org.au FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 07/04/2020, Melbourne VIC DLRA 2020 Speed Week update On the 16th March the DLRA announced that Speed Week 2020 and the World Speed Trials Australia would be postponed to a date to be announced due to the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Since that decision by the DLRA committee was made, the world has become a very different place. In the last 2 weeks, the DLRA has been busy developing several different scenarios and there was a poll conducted of key stakeholders of likely dates suitable for later in the year with November being the preferred time, even though it was notoriously windy that time of the year. However, there was not enough support for a November date with only 22% indicating that they would or could race in November and 78% indicating that they wanted to race in 2021. Significantly there is also no indication from the Government as to how long restrictions will be in place or if the Nation is likely to go into a stricter form lock down, making it impossible to even consider a date any time this year. So sadly, the DLRA have determined they will not be hosting any further land speed events in 2020. Speed Week 2020 entrants will now have 2 alternatives. 1. Roll over their entry to 2021. 2. Or contact the office for a refund. Note, entrant refunds will be $100 less than the fee paid, as per the condition on the entry form. Refunds for camping and lake entry fees will only be given when and as requested. World Speed Trials Australia #2 update The World Speed Trials Australia will continue to be postponed indefinitely. Given the costs incurred by the DLRA in postponing their events for 2020, the DLRA are no longer in a position to sponsor an event of this type. This decision was not taken lightly, but the DLRA could not consider putting the future of their organisation at risk just to continue to promote this event. If a sponsor could be found, they would certainly consider running this event in 2021. The DLRA certainly recognises the significant costs involved by the participants in obtaining their international licences and equipment for this event and sincerely want to see them get the chance to compete. The WSTA entry fee paid to the DLRA by the entrants will be fully refunded.
Nitro Revival 4 (and the Hot Rod Hangout) has been postponed until November 7, 2020. It will still be held at Irwindale Dragstrip 500 Speedway Drive Irwindale, California 91706
Cruisin OC (Ocean City MD) May 14th-17th, "postponed" until next May 20th-24th 2021. Current registrations will be honored next year,refunded or can be transferred to "Endless Summer Cruisin" Oct. 8th-11th.
The Concourse d'Elegance show in Forest Grove, Oregon is cancelled this year. It was suppose to be Sunday the 19th of July.
*ATTENTION ALL THOSE WHO HAD PRE-PAID FOR THE 2020 LOS ANGELES ROADSTER SHOW SWAP MEET AT THE FAIRPLEX IN POMONA, CA* As a pre-registered 'swapper' for the 2020 LARS swap meet, I was contacted yesterday by the L.A. Roadster Show & Exposition swap meet Chairman Ken Butler. Ken informed me that the Fairplex facility (owned by L.A. County & managed under contract by the Fairplex organization) is currently being set up for COVID-19 needs of L.A. County at this time. The L.A. Roadsters were offered a later date in July 2020, but with the current social changes being of a fluid nature without any affirmative resolution, the club resolved to err on the side of caution & cancel this years event for 2020 and reconvene in 2021. In lieu of this, Ken offered me the option of receiving a full refund for the 2020 event swap spaces I'd already paid for, or to 'roll over' this year's swap space fee as a credit to pay for swap spaces at the 2021 LARS they are planning to host & manage. He added that the Los Angeles Roadster Club had also signed up to secure the date & location for 5 more years. I opted to take the credit option to cover swap space fees for the 2021 LARS. Ken said he has been reaching out to all pre-registered swappers personally to speak to them and offer them these choices in regards to their pre-paid 2020 swap spaces, but was having trouble reaching some of them. I offered to help through this post & he approved (see below). Hello, One of the nicest car shows in So Cal has announced that it will also be closed due to the restrictions place on all of us everywhere. So, for the time being, enjoy past photos of the other 24 years the show has been going on in this small beach city. The show has grown in those 24 years and the hot rods are multiplying like bunnies. The 25th would have been a cool one, for sure. ...as of today (4-25-20) the Tin Butchers have not cancelled our Scrap Drive event, but the Boone County Fairboard has cancelled all events until further notice. ...it's rather doubtful that things will be condusive to having events by our show date but we will see.(if we cancel this date, we can not re-schedule for this year) ...will keep you informed.
