The Silhouette also appears in the 1965 film "Beach Ball" with Edd Byrnes and Chris Noel. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058952/
I bet he was fucking cooking in that car driving down PCH,,,Most people with bubble top cars only drove them at night,,, Bubble top = Magnifying glass Cool stuff Manny!! evel
Lloyd Bridges??!! Whoda thunk it? I built that thing as a model car a few times. Looks like one of the VideoBeat movies! Cool!! Dave
They drive it around in a chase scene with the local police and end up at a car show where they try to hide out among the entries. It's pretty lame but there are performances by the Righteous Brothers, the Four Seasons The Walker Brothers, the Hondells and, believe it or not, the Supremes that are pretty interesting. I recorded a copy years ago when it was shown on AMC. I don't know if it's commercially available.
My buddy has a copy of Wonderful World of Wheels on 16mm. If I remember correctly it includes a scene with Ed Roth too. Its an incredible overview of mid-60s motorized glory.
Do you guys remember a movie with Norm G. in it? Called way way out or something. Tons of cars if I remember right. Norm was a movie star right?
The movie you're thinking of is "Out of Sight" starring Jonathan Daly and Karen Jensen from 1966. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060807/ Norm played a character called Huh!. The film also starred Barris' ZZR. A twin-engined spy-themed hot rod. Check out Norm Grabowski's acting credits on IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0333288/
WE HAVE A WINNER! you are correct Ed Roth is in the film and here is a frame capture! with the surfite?
According to the IMDB site about the movie Beach Ball details; "The film is of no small interest to '60s custom-car fans. It features an exceptionally rare appearance by the famous Silhouette, completed in 1963 by legendary builder Bill Cushenbery. The bubble-domed car was stolen in Bakersfield, CA, in 1983 and has never been found.". Is that still true?
It says video unavailable but here's a thread posted by @stillrunners yesterday. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/world-of-wheels-lloyd-bridges.1190027/
That is a very cool video! I'm not sure why, but I somehow imagined that Silhouette driving down an orange road with vertical loop-de-loops.
I watched that Lloyd Bridges show when it aired on TV. I also saw the Silhouette in Bakersfield in the 70s. I took a Victorian table and chairs to a paint stripping shop on 24th st. and there it was in the back of the shop, the chrome all really rusty, original wheels replaced with Cragar 5-spoke steel wheels, in it's 'glorious' lime green metal flake paint. I would have offered to buy it but was a struggling new engineer barely making enuf to eat! Here is what it looked like then but in more rundown condition.
