The Ingall's Special...a bit of a Hybrid, kind of a Hotrod sticking it's nose into Road Racing much like @Pete1 did...Love It...and they were a force...Good on them...



...These fella's were constantly pushing the envelope changing stuff to better improve handling and this Racer was no exception and had a wild modding in the rear fender department...

...I jokingly use Lucky Guy when I see a a Guy sitting in a Hotrod that I really would like to have the keys too but in this case it's Lucky Gal...and This Hotrodder would Be Helen Root and yeah this is one Classy Machine ready to rip down the strip and win the race!!...

I wonder how some of them got that very narrow peak? Were they spare tire covers from different makes that came that way or did they cut the Ford apart and weld them back together? A LOT of work that.
Anybody know?

 

Thanks @oj I'm sure they were as individual as the Hotrodders themselves...Spare tire Covers are a given in many circumstances but yeah a trip to the wreckers probably gave a man a zillion choices for candidates not to mention motorcycle and add to that the ever watchful JC/Cal Custom After Market...

...and further to that were those crafty with the eye and a torch and Beverly shear or tinsnips...Stan Back said the braces on The Stan Back Roadster were Pipe or Tube Pounded flat at the mount and fender ends...So many levels of innovation really...

This roadster has some outstanding features, not really noted before - Nope, not F100 shocker mounts, but late 30's Dodge, chromed and mounted backwards.

and look at the Bell Axle - beautiful!!!!

This is still a great car to draw inspiration from for a mid-50's style build.



As an aside - this magazine features an article on how to adapt a 35-37 Packard 3 speed stick up behind an early Chevrolet and jimmy bellhousing. I used this article to assist me adapting mine to a post-54 bellhousing.

A ‘36 Ford spare tire cover has the rib. This rib is the same width as a ‘32 three window belt line mounding.

 

Thanks for the mention, I haven't been able to verify but from pictures I have seen it appears the ridge on my front "cycle" fenders are too tight to be from a 35/36 Ford spare tire ring which appear to be wider, some pictures I have seen make me wonder if the fenders were cut from a 33/34 ring as they look closer to what mine are - anybody have any ideas ? Original builder knows they were from a spare tire ring, but no idea what car it was from.. The rear fenders were sliced with a hacksaw & shaped to fit along the 1/4 after being channeled..

Fixed rear with cycle type fronts always made sense to me, specially in the rain. The fronts need to hug the tire to look good

 

I actually thought of historic roads largely dirt back in the day and fenders hugging tires getting choked up with mud...that may have had a relation to clearances...City based versus out in the boonies...But yes close to tire looks better and it is interesting the positioning and lengths are all over...but you know when there's no rules it's like that...and I'm pretty open...to all variations...

...This Hotrod has similatities in stance and build to the Coffee Grinder featured earlier in this Thread...It also went from No Fronts to Cycle Fronts, It has been resurrected to an inspired version of its former look above but still remains possibly owned by Hamber at the link above...
