Sorry if this goes long, just giving backstory. What else do ya go to do on a sleepy Saturday afternoon? And I’m sorry it kinda goes OT for the forum being due to a time BEFORE automobiles lol So I’ve been mortgaging a house for 2.5 years(Was the last thing/property of an estate, there was a big sigh of relief from the daughter and her husband when the paper work was done lol) Anyways, the old man who owned the house and barn/shop/couple out buildings, was big into antique tractors/farm equipment. It had been in the family since the late 1800s, the property goes back to 1830s(was a school property from 1860s to 1920s, cemetery next door). Apparently original foundation that has been strengthened with 5ft tall x 20in deep old mix concrete, they state the house was built in ‘49. I think I still have the four-section drag in this auction ad. Ed is the brother of who owned my house, Charles. I also told told my realtor to tell them to leave ANYTHING they didn’t want to take, minus obvious trash. So I got left a couple gems and some random old stuff, who don’t like old stuff?! Alright here are the pics, spindle to spindle look to be 50-51”, 6 lug hubs about 5-1/2” spacing, center to center on the pad is about 26-3/4”. Was modified to be used for a plow vehicle? Maybe weakened in the middle? And this is the gravestone of the man and his family who owned my property and the 400acres around here in Mayfield Township, in northern IL back in the middle 1800s. All the soldiers have been exhumed and moved to the Kingston IL cemetery. As far as I know and the neighbor know this is still an active cemetery. It is “owned” by a man/***ociation in TX. A human alone can’t own a cemetery in IL, it has to be an ***ociation. The Ira Dougl*** house still stands south of me across the road, minus the barns in the drawing. He was a Methodist preacher and an abolitionist. Held services In his house until, im ***uming, the Mrs got mad and said no more. So he built a school, which is my property. A lot of my info came from his great niece who has a blog about her family. I have had some contact with her and she did a blip about my property. Well that’s interesting. Wonder what they tried using it for. Did they try putting it under a tractor? Got a 64 Comet but I don’t plan on straight axle-ing it. This may just get cleaned up a bit and become wall art I guess for now until maybe there’s a use for it.
I think old axles were often used for carts or trailer axles. They cut and welded up the tie rod, or something, usually.
