I was recently givin a 63 Poncho Lemans, fairly solid and a V8 car w 326 ci + minimal rust issues,No title,I have always liked the A/FX versions of these cars such as Arnie Bewicks "Tameless Tiger",(hope he is recovering well)and other's ,BUT I know no details, I know some of these cars had full size poncho rear ends but have again -no idea how they were mounted or if narrowed also there was a company that had a kit to install 67-9 camaro rears in these cars, but long ago lost the contact info I am thinking 400 ci T400 and I have a 63 cat RE,Anyone have details on these cars?

Sweet! You are getting some sweet rides my friend. Would you letter it up on the side as "Dancin' D"??? DuckusCrapus
just might ,LOL,between the 46 Ply, the 54 Olds 88 tudor and now this I will be busy for quite some time LOL ,sad part is that right now i'm broke as a church mouse ,but its only a temporary sitution I hope, LOL
nope, had the Olds for sale for a bit w no interest, so i put it back in storage -complete titled roller w no engine /trans
been to Arnie's site, no details at all , just whole car pics and personal info (not that ,that is bad) but I need tech info/pics,my thought is that the rope DS will not live behind a Strong poncho , tho I see some had 421's while still retaining it
Mike, I have built a 62 drag car and a 63 street car, on the race car i cut out the entire floor and did a 2x3 frame and full cage with alum floor and alston firewall kit, big pontiac mtr and glide. big tires etc. drives good to this day and runs in th low 10's the street one was left with orig floor and cut for trans tunnel. built some rear frame rails into it and hung a set of leaf springs and a 12 bolt rear the floor pan isnt strong enough to hang suspension on it without doing some rail work of sorts, and the motor in it now doesnt require a tunnel so it has flat floor so you make a tunnel also but a 455 will fit in it up front ok and the suspension works as well up there ala corvair........good luck
Early in 1963 Pontiac came out with 12 Super Duty Lemans Tempest. 6 were coupes, 6 were wagons all painted in Cameo white. Arnie Beswick recieved a wagon that became "Mrs. B's Famous Grocery Getter". This was one of his most sucessful cars. 4 or 5 months later he became owner of a coupe that was first owned by Mickey Thompson. This car became "The Little B's Runabout". With a Pontiac 421SD powered Ford Flatbed truck and trailer in tow Arnie would take both the wagon and coupe to different meets. The transaxle setups had a habit of breaking. They were autos but had a clutch in them to start them out. If both were running without break downs alot of times they would be paired against each other in the finals. In '64 when Arnie was coming back from Pomona through a snowstorm in the mountains the trailer came around and hit the truck. The coupe was damaged badly. After that the "Runabout" transformed into the "Tameless Tiger". This car recieved a "big car" rear end and regular transmission. As for Arnie now, he is recovering very well and should be racing again very soon.
I'll look up Nunzi , Thanks for the backround on the AB Tempests , ,I knew Mickey Thompson had one that was sold to AB,I found some info online about how MT +AB teamed up to mate hemi heads to a Ford Big BlocK,interesting ,It really shows the inovations that Hotrodders came up with that detroit picked up on,
heres my 63 lemans. ive been thinking about building an a/fx out of it. this one is a 4cyl 4bbl 4spd.
I f you are interested, I could get you a fiberglass reproduction of the proper "Ford truck" hood scoop that Pontiac used on their Super Duty cars.
no 61-62 tempest/lemans came with big car rear ends. they were all trans axle's. if any of you want to sell your 63's i have an immediate buyer.
None in production ,true, but many A/FX Tempests were changed to it later due to dependability issues- I will,no time or money anyway, PM me back
yep,did + did'nt mean to ignore your info, thanks for it , but I wanted to know how THEY did it just for reference. I am at the info collectng stage I like to build a info file LONG b4 I start a car ;D
Mike, and other interested parties...the Sept '62 Hot Rod magazine has an article...Mickey Thompson-Hayden Profitt build of a 421/gearbox '62 Tempest. Bill
Check out this forum on Performance Years Bulletin Boards. http://forums.performanceyears.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=427 There's quite a few guys in the know there.
I have a issue of Hot Rod magazine where they built a a/fx car detailing what they did. If you want I can mail it to you just PM me your address and I'll send it to you. If anyone else remembers it its the one with the guy standing on the cover in a old fire suit and the car in the background.

Wish I could find someone hot for a ragtop '63 - I found one, a red 326/4-speed car at that. I may bring it home next week anyways, like I need another potential project -
