Can someone give me an average measurement of the distance from the center-line of steering to the cowl of a 1928-29 Ford Roadster using a Schroeder steering box?? Looking to find out what is the correct length for the Schroeder box or other side steer options. Thanks
That question is a little like "How long is a piece of string"--lots of variables in that equation. Roo
to make it a little more clear-they were available in any measurement you wanted.Even in sprint car use, they could vary greatly depending on ch***is width and customer preference
I know Schroeder's out of business but whenever I bought a box from them they sent me a diagram of how to measure for a steering box.Didn't Ididit buy the rights to the box? Perhaps they now have a measurement chart available??????????
Sorry everyone and thank you all for responding. After I posted it, I realized I was vague in what I was asking for. I should've stated I need dimensions from a 28-29 roadster. What I am looking for is the distance from the center of the steering column (sitting in the driver seat, looking down towards your feet) to the inner side of the cowl, close where your left foot would be. I wanted to know what that measurement is. (This dimension will be cole to the length need for a side steer box.) I know Schroeder is out of business and Ididit did buy them but they are only able to refurbish old boxes. They have all the tooling but have not made new ones yet. I needed to know if a customer's Schroeder box will fit in a project he wants to do. Thanks again for all the responses! ! !
Still asking for a piece of string. Where you position the box up/down and forward/back will make inches of difference in the length of the sector. The 28/9 cowl sides curve in every direction and get wider as they go backwards. And who's to say you don't want to cheat the column an inch or two off center for more interior room? Personally I'd sit in the car with a broomstick and a loose steering wheel, moving the stuff around until you found the most comfortable position. Then see how far you can scoot the box up and forward to keep it out of your pedals' way.
