It's not going to be a true woody. It's is just going to be skinned in wood. I bought a couple books on automotive wood working, and it made me realize I posses neither the tools nor talent to do it the proper way. I have very few woodworking tools, so I need to keep it very simple.

I hear ya on the woodworking skills. All the crown moulding in my home is white so I can fill the gaps with caulk.;)

I just couldn't help myself, I had to put some wood on. I have to say I prefer grinding dust to saw dust though.[IMG]

I made a little more progress this week. I decided to add a faux wheel arch to fill up some space. I realized I need to invest in some carpentry tools, that arch kicked my ass trying to smooth the curves out.[IMG]

Well let's see... I've been back at work again so the progress has slowed a little, but I'm still picking away when I get a chance. I didn't like the wheel arch I made, so I made a little jig to cut prefect arches and it didn't cost a dime.[IMG]

Today I was able to get wood on the back of the body and the rear gate. I just have to make two strips for the edges (next to the rear gate), but they are an odd width, so I have to barrow my co-workers table saw. I just have to finish up the front over the doors and windshield, then I'll be done with the wood for a while.[IMG][IMG]

Thanks I'm doing the best I can for a guy that didn't take wood shop. I thought about making a tail gate, but I decided against it. Because the frame is z'd so high, that lower area can't be used for storage. The only thing that will be under there is the gas tank, which I'm planning on accessing via a hatch in the rear floor.

I was looking through some pictures and found a picture of the day I picked this thing up. It's been 10 years I think. Time flys. I guess when your 24 and don't know what your looking at, buying a cut up truck can made of tin and bondo seems like a good idea.

It has a roof! I had originally planned on using plywood, but after studying real woodies and hucksters I thought plywood might look to flat and amateurish. This wood I used was kind of wet, so I'm hoping if I just leave it screwed down it will dry into the bowed shape. I cut a slight radius into the bows, but once all the wood was on, it just kind of looks flat. I'm going to let it dry out before I trim the edges and the front edge. I plan on leaving a little overhang for a visor.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

The roof is all done. Trimmed the front off and shaped up the sides. It will get covered with vinyl in the end so don't mind the 200+ exposed wood screws. There are no exposed fasteners from the inside, so it will look fairly clean. I'm going to take a little break for a couple weeks, I have completely pushed off all my other responsibilities working on the car. My lawn looks like crap. But the next step is taking all the wood back off and finishing some fabrication work. Then I need to clean up and paint the steel structure. I'll be doing bodywork before you know it. My biggest problem is going to be figuring out where to store all this wood once I take it off.

  26. I hope you are going to number all the roof timbers.
This has turned into something really cool and unique to you and you should be proud of what you have created.:cool::D JW

Thanks man I am happy with how it coming out. It's always cool to take a sketch or idea and bring it to life. As for the timbers, they're glued and screwed to a frame, so the whole unit will unbolt in one big heavy piece. Up until this point I have never had help with anything, not even asking the wife to hand me a tool, but I'm going to need to call my brother to come help me lift that roof off, it's going to weigh a lot!

No spare carrier. Maybe a side window? huge blind spot to drive.

So often home built woodie creations just dont flow right. Yours flows, I like it
