    Hello all:

Building a '27 roadster on '29 rails, and have recently become enamored with photos of the Connie Weidell '27 roadster. I have Don Montgomery's "Hot Rod Memories" (pic, p. 114), and there he refers to "Hot Rods in the Forties" (p. 91) (I don't have this book yet, however).

Today (6/5) the roadster turned up on the American Hot Rod Foundation pic of the day. (http://www.ahraf.com/photo_of_the_day.php)

Anyway, I know I've seen other photos of it somewhere, but darned if I can find them or a reference to him here or elsewhere on the web, nor his story. Montgomery has a little bit: the roadster was Cad flathead powered, and Connie ran a garage in L.A. Also did track roadster racing. Not much else I've turned up.

Any pics or info would be appreciated.

EDIT: well, found a couple at AHRF website, but would love more!

    Thanks,
    Paul/CA

Connie Weidell's '27T roadster was a strong running roadster that he raced and drove on the streets as did almost all of the guys in the 1946 era. His speeds at the lakes were the fastest a**** the Cad powered roadsters then. I used 3 photos of the roadster in my book "Hot Rods Of The Forties"( Naturally I would be happy to sell you a copy ). Look at my website www.montgomeryhotrodbooks.com.
The roadster had a "strong" appearance which the high set headers contributed to. Note the modified front end design and even Delco shocks in one photo.
It is an interesting hot rod to replicate. Go for it

Wow, Don, thanks for replying to my post.

Permit me a moment here to gush, but your books are iconic (and for anyone into trad hot rods who doesn't have one yet - GET ONE!) and have long been an inspiration to me. I've carted around through several moves a signed copy I bought from you back in '91, when I had no time, talent, or money to build a hot rod. You answered my tech questions with a thoughtful handwritten note that I've had stuck in that book all this time.

Well, now - 17 years later - I've got at least 2 of the 3 previously mentioned requisites to build my own hot rod - and actually have two projects in the garage. The other is a '29 RPU on '32 rails. So I guess it's time for me to get another inspirational Montgomery book, so expect a visit to your site!

    Thanks very much,
    Paul/CA

...here ya go...it was verified by those that know...I got the so right aspect which is well enough in my opinion but knowing more is also very helpful to understand the Big Picture...

@junquewerkz did you get a chance to build your dream?

    Hope as is well...

RIP Don Montgomery...and thanks for sharing your world to help us understand the greatness before many of us...

Thanks, Stogy, for this update post on an ancient thread. I haven't seen that photo before! And, before he p***ed, I bought another book from Don Montgomery and he included other photos of Connie's roadster. You can see the way my roadster turned out on my Instagram feed. It ended up turning out more like Louis Banto and Sal Macchia's roadster (at least, like parts of it).
