Lets see. A perfectly good spare tire you are afraid to use because You don't want to screw up the rim. A jack you are afraid to use because of soft ground.
Seems to me that a plate for the jack to set on would be a good thing to carry also. Supposing your friend was unavailable to come and get you. Then what ? Supposing a sudden rain storm came up and your car is on the rollback and you are on the side of the road. Maybe a hungry bear just came out of hibernation ?
They do sell paint to fix the rim , don't they ? I wouldn't have a car that I couldn't change a tire if I had one in the trunk.
What happened to the Americans that would jack the car up and break the tire down and patch the tube and use a tire pump to inflate the tire and put it back on ?
You sir have gotten too soft! Glad you and your wife got home safe.

You guys are hard! So how did they get the center cap off? The guys at the tire shop aren't going to be careful...

Thanks for the reminder. I'm going to go to the shop today and check the air pressure in my spares...it's been a while. You never know when one of my 30 year old BFG T/A radials will give out.

  5. My granddad would have walked 10 miles in the snow to get his tire patch kit. Then he'd put an new patch over the old one. And use his hand pump to inflate it. I'll just call a friend.:) lol[IMG]

The 5 year life of tires is a joke. Lawyers advising tire manufacturers probably has a lot to do with this.

Dunham Pond, Carver? That rang a bell. My friend Jay lives on Main St in Carver, just around the corner. I got my 40 Ford from him. It´s about time to visit him again... oh well
I think Jay took this photo of his / now my 40 on Dunham Pond IMG_5115.JPG

Jay is a friend of mind also, as is Gunter, although I did not get to meet him when he came to the States. He actually wants to buy my 57 fenders W/ quad lights.
I also have a picture of Jay and I on Savery in my 57, it’s a cool spot with the history and all.
I remember the 40 in Jay’s shop before he sold it, really nice car. I was actually going to stop by and see him as we had spoke last week.
That said, I guess a guy not wanting to scratch up his **** doesn’t make sense. I never thought about having to remove the center caps before, next time I will be better prepared and sure as hell won’t post about it here. I figured a free tow and being able to fix it in my own shop without having to repaint everything made more sense to me than others.

I buy those small aluminum floor jacks at Harbor Freight and keep one in each vehicle. Not interested in using any of those factory jacks. Very light and sturdy if ever needed. Handle dis***embles for easy storage.

Oh yes, I know about the 57 quad headlight fenders! How small the world is, hahaha
When we were at Jay´s in July ´18 we went to the cruise night at the Walmart in , I think it was Raynham? Not sure, and he finally found you and I was standing by as you two were discussing about selling the dual quad 57 fenders. I drove Jay´s 40 to that carshow. I´ll see If I can dig up a photo... I think , I just said that I love the dual quad treatment on your 57!

It costs so much effort and money to get them nice,I think it is reasonable to try and keep them that way as long as possible....

The diamond back auburn deluxe radials might be what you need. They looks the part and perform even better. I’d have to say I’m done with bias at this point when I can get the Auburn’s.

I looked into the Diamondbacks and saw a lot of negative comments, some people saying they are worse than Coker’s.
Coker was great to deal with on the phone and I’ll be going with radials on the 57 when the time comes.
I never thought of checking the date on the tires on the 39 when I got it as they only had a little over 300 miles on them.
    Live and learn......

  18. When I take the roadster out for a cruise/road trip, I just have my driver follow behind me with the rollback. I don't have a cell phone...

Kind of like the bad *** biker that has his old lady follow behind in her SUV with a trailer in case it might rain or the parts might fall off.
My grand father moved his family from eastern Ky. to Michigan with a team of horses and a wagon
because they had homestead land in Michigan in the 1920's . His cell phone reception wasn't very good, but do you think he wasn't going to go because he thought it might be too hard.
If your car is too perfect to drive and not worry about your rim getting a scratch then stay home and polish it in the garage.

Old tires with no miles on them, flat spots occur sitting to long. Driving an older car with no miles on it for a while, expect it to happen again with other problems.

  21. Interesting.. Couldn't get a ride from tow truck driver.. You couldn't ride in your car on the bed?.. do it here all the time when I was driving tow truck, Only so much room in a single cab and there is 4 adults and 6 kids in those dag gum excursions.
