Hey just trying to get some info on two roadsters. First is the 36 that he built with the help of some other folks and was featured in the 97 Street Rodder. It got like a page and 1/4 (What a shame) but left an impact on me. I saw at the SoCal Speed Shop open house back in 2001. And looked it over for hours. Didn't get get a chance to talk to him as he parked it and ran into a motorhome. Hop-Up did an article on him restoring his father's (Frank) 29 roadster, atleast the beginning of it. So is this roadster finished? He sold the 36 to finance the 29. Where's the 36. Plus the 36 was for sale back in 2001. Man I wnated to buy that car. Anybody have any info. Thanks Ken
Jack is/was in my car club, a loosely based Sunday morning group in Fontana. About two years ago he moved away and havent seen him since, either Florida or Kansas I think. Far as I know he still had the '36 then. Funny I was just thinking about him this afternoon. I'll try to remember to ask any of the guys next week, if I dont go to Pomona swap, what they know about what happened to Jack. Send me a PM in a week or two.
The Roadster was his Dad's car, He still has it. As far as I know he lives in Arizona now. We have been friends for a long time.
Jack is living in Mesa Arizona and still has both roadsters, I talk to him every couple of months. He bought the 36 in california when he was still living in Michigan, he bought it from the guy that owned Beverly Hils car covers (it used to be in their ad in the magazines with just the nose poking out from under a cover. It was pretty much a stocker when he bought it and he completely rebuilt it, Motor City flathead,Teddy Z built the top,Gary Benway interior,I did the wiring. Jack still has his fathers roaster but he hasn't finished it yet. He also had a cool 34 Vicky that he bought in 1970 and sold in the late 90's. It was built in the 50's in Dearborn Michigan by Ernie Slazi (sp?), chopped, channeled, sectioned. It is supposed to be in the San Diego area now being rebuilt.........
I sure would like to see more of Jack and the cars that Jack owned. He certainly has owned some very intersting cars. I would especially like to see more of his '34 Vicky. I used to see it at nearly every show I attended back here in the east when he was still a Michigan resident. It was so slick. I really liked the way the headlights were done. Nowadays, that treatment would make the purists sick to their tummies, but they were very cool back then. I also liked the black cherry color. Anyone have any pics in their files?
I remember this car from Nationals in St. Paul in the 70's. Often wondered what happened to it. I would never think of cutting up a '34 Vicky like that, but I liked this one.
Wow! guys. Good to hear he's around. Also, he was livin here in Socal and had the 36, wish I could have got another look. I liked the roadster alot! seeing it in the 97 Street Rodder, it fueled the fire to get into 40's style customs and hot rods. RF did the short write-up in the 97 article too. Also enjoyed the article in Hop-Up. Hope he does finish the roadster. Thanks ken
Here's one in one of it's various stages, the slammed down version in black cherry was my favorite.... I'll have to dig to find a couple of shots from one of the Firemans Field shows.......
Here are some photos of the Vicky over the years. When I met Jack in 1974 the car was black with Truspoke wires, then he painted it Black Cherry a couple of times then Charcoal Gray, Red, then Black again when he sold it. He put well over 100,000 miles on it over the years with a 289 Ford in it. I he;ped him strip it a couple of times (back when you used aircraft stripper and a brush) and the metal work was awesome, all hammer welded and lead.
[ (who's Anglia?) CC[/quote] That Anglia was owned by Mario Olgiati, he didn't own it very long, maybe a year or so. I have a lot of pics from those old shows, I will see if I have a shot of that Anglia for you Chuck.........
Wow is it cool to see everyone talking about all the cars my dad (Jack) has owned. Im on my way to see him this weekend for the roadster show. He is doing really well, the 29 is almost done and will be coming back to michigan with me in a few weeks! He still has the 36 and is almost done with a gl*** 36 that he is building for his wife. I will post some pics when I get back!
That's so cool, I recently became friends with Jack (neighbors) and I was trying to read an article he told me about and I stumbled on to this. Such a cool guy, it's always fun talking about cars/trucks with him!
