Getting ready to blast and paint the frame/suspension. I've always been a fan of Krylon Satin Black but I'm looking for something a bit more durable. POR-15 is good but the only black I've seen is very glossy. Don't really care for the gloss. Lets hear what everyone uses! Pics would be a bonus!
I just used the semi gloss por15 and yea it’s shinier then I wanted. There is a top coat you can spray on it more flat/ch***is black color. I opted not to. Hopefully it’ll dull down after some time.
I used Custom Shop Hot Rod Flats (black satin) on the last two frames I shot...and a VW pan...worked and held up well...but you have to spray it.
I use VHT ch***is & roll cage matte black. It covers well, blends in good when touched up. I got a 6-can case for less than $40 on Amazon.
I used Rustoleum black, thinned with mineral spirits. If thinned enough, it will spray real nice and flow out to a nice finish. Only thing, oil based paint cant really be painted over with certain types of paint ( i think)
This would be non gloss https://blitzblack.com/ Since it is a Farm and Implement paint it is usually more durable.
A case of VHT is now $55 and the John Deere Blitz Black isn't available in California. I'm thinkin' of going with a quart of this...……………. https://www.eastwood.com/ew-extreme-ch***is-black-satin-qt.html
This stuff here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Magnet-Pai...594686?hash=item3ab4a1a17e:g:nJUAAOSwI-BWKnQE Seems to be holding up well, but how would I know, it has only been on the frame for about 3 years...
Van Sickle tractor/implement paint. Thin with Naptha thinner to spray. Can also add a hardener. Comes in gloss, satin, or flat. Approximately $30 per gallon.
I used Ch***is saver on a couple vehicles, I believe the color was Antique Black. kind of a satin finish. tough as nails. Do not get it on you, you have to pretty much remove skin to get it off of you. you can top coat it with almost anything.
On the stock cars, Rustoleum utility paint was our go-to. Body, ch***is, roll cages, it covered well and held up. We used those cheap 3" rollers that came with their own paint pans, done... throw the whole thing away.
Since I had to take the frame off for all the body work that needs done, I cleaned it up and took it to powder coat. Only paid about $1k for everthing including the control arms and rear axle.
