Hi all, I’m working on a 40 standard coupe that currently has a package tray set up. I pulled out the seat and rugs to treat the floorboards and I’m considering adding some type of modified back seat (I have a small kid). I know that fold down jump seats were used in these cars but wondering if anyone has done anything different? I’ve also read that a 65 mustang convertible back seat fits in without many mods. Any ideas or pics of what you’ve done would be very helpful and appreciated!!!

It has been done - almost for the sake of doing it, but small kids don't stay small very long, and therein lies the problem.

I like the jump seats, but they are hard to find and bit pricey. Always thought that those drop down, small seats in the back of extended cab S-10 pick-ups (and others) could be made to work. They even come with safety belts for the little guys. Should be plenty of 'em in the salvage yards....Don.

In my 39 Deluxe Coupe I used the back seat from a 64-66 thunderbird. It’s kind of a wrap around seat, just left out the center armrest, cut the bottom to match the width and it fits. The bottom has to be slid quite a bit under the back, but gives enough for a small seating area. Sorry I don’t have any pictures

  5. In the first version of my car(47 Business Coupe )I used the removable rear seats from a Chevy Venture Mini Van-they fit in well and also fold flat. They also require a lot of modifications if you want to make them look ‘old style’.
In the second version with a complete new interior -the upholsterer actually requested to custom make a new bench rear seat as he felt it would be more proportional to the area and match the theme of the interior better at a lower cost to me....He was right

Do you have the seat back that flips up from the bottom for access to the area under the package shelf? Those were hinged at the top. Or do you have the seat backs that fold forward like the coupes that had opera seats? If you have the former, it will be difficult to access the rear seats when you add them.

Have used center seat from Dodge mini Van . Fits perfect for front seat in Model A. No mods needed and will fold down. Sold car so do not have measurements.

  9. 70's Dodge Club cab had those as well.

Thanks everybody for the feedback! Asphalt Angel, that looks awesome, is that a coupe? Seems like a lot of space back there...

Arkie, I have the folding seats. Here are some pics of my interior.

  11. It is a 47 Ford-short door (Business Coupe)-no back seat from factory and the front seat was top hinged.(gone now)
It is tight for an adult-although I have had a smaller stature adult ride there a short distance.
I just wanted a seat for my Grand Kids-What I have is proportionate to the space available.

Apples and oranges. A '47 is a bigger space.

  13. My point is -build to the space you have if you want to maximize your potential. The 40 is slightly smaller behind the driver seat- when you remove everything back to the body structure / back window and start from there- you can build as big of a seat as is possible for the space available.

This is not mine. It's one of the photos I kept, looking at ideas for my own 40 Coupe. I had a really nice photo of a friend of mine's 40 coupe back seat that is to this day my favorite version but that photo was on my old phone that went black. I will get another photo of his when I see him again.

I am using the same seats in the 42 Chevy coupe I’m building for my daughter. Here is a picture of them in that car AC99B15B-C66E-4C43-9DB7-17D78E3EF235.jpeg
