Rocky's comment on the Muncie in his Porsche got me to thinking. Got nothin' better to do as it's snowing like crazy with 6-12 inches expected.
What is the strangest combination you have ever seen, or done.
Mine would be the gasser a friend of mine and I built in high school. '49 Ford tudor with a '53 Buick straight eight in it. Back four cylinders were in the front seat area. Wish I had pictures. I think of that car whenever anyone says something can't be done. [IMG]

My dad and I built a modified garden tractor for pulling.

    Aluminum model T frame
    Johnson 40 hp outboard
    Dodge Colt auto trans
    Narrowed Alfa rear.

But it was geared too high, did like 90 mph in the driveway though!

Not traditional - but a friend of my sons just finished a Honda CRX on a Samuri chassis and it actually turned out pretty nice.

When I was growing up, my dad built a '64 Triumph TR-4 with a 350hp 289 Ford backed by a three speed (?) that went into a narrowed Ford 9" that had 15" Buick finned drums mated to it.

When I was in High School a gut put together a 63 Falcon Futura with a 392 Hemi and push Botton trans. It sat at stock height. It almost looked stock until you looked under it and saw the dropped straight axle and the big honkin headers. I wish it was still around.

Another wild one was a early 50's MG roadster with a Fuel injected 401 Buick Nailhead. Looked like a Cartoon car. Ran in the street roadster class at Dover Dragway back in the 60/70's

There's a little Chevy Monza running around here with a big block Mopar in it...

...I looked at a 74 Firebird for sale years ago that someone had dumped an AMC 360 into...

    ...and I'm putting a 2.8 V6 into a 49 Chevy!

We must breed 'em crazy here in Michigan!! [IMG] [IMG]

i have seen a volkswagen beatle with a 392 hemi in it. the owner called it "herbie the love bug on steroids"

  10. A friend of my father's put a Buick straight eight into a mid 20's Chrysler touring car. It was the eight that had two carbs and a plit exhaust. He said it went like hell, but if he spun too hard it would knock the outsides off the wood spoke wheels.

Goofiest thing I actually saw was a Ford Courier truck with a narrowed olds transaxle and 455 in the box. It had boat headers and supertrapps straight out the back. The guy had the original engine still in the front to keep the front wheels on the ground.

The there was the BIG biker chick I saw in Sturgis with a v-8 trike and what looked like my living room love seat on it. She fit the chair rather comfortably.

Not too strange but in late 70s I put a 289/ ford w C-4 in a 67 Jag XKE. Put sidepipes on it, only clue not stock. Cornered like a mofo. Wish I could have kept it. Sold when daughter # 1 came along.

  14. Check out the post about the Cubans...

There's some guy around here with a BMW Isetta with 59 Impala fins grafted on.

  15. not car related, but I had a yamaha YSR minibike that stock, had a 50cc 2 stroke, but I put a YZ125 engine in it. It was the fastest accelerating thing I have ever been on! Then I sold it to buy pistons for a Hemi.

BMW Isetta and a VW Beetle drivetrain makes one heck of a wheelie machine. 3'+ in first, 3' in second, 6" in third, all measured at the wheel while accelerating(aproximate distances)

Same guy, Golf cart and a VW drivetrain = megafast golfcart. slicks on the back because tires with tread cause megawheelies on the turf, while the slicks just spin. FORE!!

This guy's about the best barnyard engineer I've ever seen. He can make anything work with anything. One heck of a trike builder too. Cut his teeth back in the day on a blown '50 Ford, at least until he blew the bottom end out of it.

2.8 in a '49 Chevy, sorry FatHack. Oh, and a Jaguar v12 in a corvair.

  25. Cad 500 in the back of a Beetle.

Fella welded the front chassis rails of the FWD Eldo into the back of the Beetle and then cut them off behind the engine.

    It's on the web somewhere.....

I've heard of him! He used the transaxle and everything from a Toronado. Just think what a 500 Caddy from an Eldo would do to one of those...

Wasn't there some magazine photographer that had two SBC's in a Simca? One had a single four and the other like 3x2s or something because he couldn't afford matching intakes. The killer was the ladder rack mounted to the roof for his photo shoots!

Some co-worker told me about a guy he knew when he was a kid that put a 427 chevy engine in a 49-50 chevy fastback. Not that odd, until I found out he mounted it where the passinger seat used to be. Fella told me it was pretty fast, but disappeared after a couple of years. I imagine it probably self-destructed...

I really don't think it is too strange but my daily driver is a 1980 Volvo Bertone (chopped top coupe) with a 5.0 ford with 5 speed.
