If the wind were to shift in that photo of the chemical plant fire those observers would likely get way more
"exposure" than they would like! When I worked in the
plants safety guys always stressed wind direction awareness. Wind socks were placed at strategic locations so you knew which way to run when things
went to hell, like in that photo. It happened much more often in my younger days!

I know that no explanation should be needed, but my grandfather from Crewe, VA once upon a time cleared jungles in Panama for roads. He operated heavy equipment and used dynamite. This was them loading the boat to go down there and work., he’s in the truck.

 

My idea of a hot rod. I always liked the look of a chopped and channeled 1932 Ford 5 window coupe.
