I have a 1949 sedan with a SBC and a 700r4 any suggestions as far as headers go , nothing seems to fit. Nothing is cut on this thing is just using Jamco motor mounts and steering gear a front sump pan a/c is above the valve cover alternator is below A/C nothing special here but nothing seems to fit
Why not try a universal fit style on that 49 Chevy, Dodge, Ford, Hudson, Nash, Packard, Plymouth, Studebaker.... you seem to be asking about.
The Amazing Kreskin says it’s a Ford. Earl, (who lives down the street) says, “of course it’s a Ford. Anytime just a number is given it’s a Ford, except maybe 55-57.”
of-course it's a ford are there other makes? anyway lucky I live close to Sanderson because I do not think I'm getting anything off the rack other than block huggers for this thing of mine
I'd wouldn't think you would be the first to run a SBC with headers in a '49 Ford. Maybe change your ***le of the post?
Of course its a Ford...is there any other kind...well if you feel that strongly about Fords why you swapping in a Chevy engine? As far as headers go ,a block hugger type is going to be about it. You do realize that not all "block huggers" are shorties. They do make ch***is length headers that tuck in tight then run down and block with collecters down in the normal place. Also there are header kits, you say your a welder....then weld up what you want. Also if you do a search on the hamb there is several treads on doing what you want, and online there are several sites on the subject , take a look at some of the pictures on them then you might get a better idea why you are limited on what headers are available. Have you all ready mounted your engine , if so how did your oil pan and steering work out? Did you go with the 62-66 V8 Nova oil pan ? Or build dropped steering components to clear the pan. Anyways have fun...enjoy the trip. Sent from my SM-T387V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
How big is the market for Chevy powered 49 Fords headers? That's why fab skills are needed in hot roding. Several years ago I replied to an add for a Jeep 6 cylinder the guy was doing a 6 to v8 conversion. He said he can't find clutch linkage from Jeep or salvage yards 6 months later I bought the project for a song. A week later my daughter was driving it ,learn to fab stuff.
used a front sump pan engine and trans are in swapped the 8ba because I could only get about 190hp out of it and the costs were just to much after market GM is much easier to come by than Ford . I sent pics to Sanderson going to have to bit the bullet on this one and pay up
I fab stuff just fine I've owned this car for almost 40 years drove it in high school have always kept it perfect no reason to change that this will be it's last make over don't want anything janky, worked for comptec years ago doing honda headers very tricky business without fixtures
