Looking to upgrade to 15 inch steelies on my customline been getting alot of different answers as far as the proper width and back spacing and what tires to run (radial) I was looking at 15x6 but a few guys suggested 15x7, as far as back space stock is 4.25? I always seem to find either 4.00 or 4.125, any help would be great just trying to get my wheels ordered are 225/75/15 common to run as well? Just dont want to spend money and I can't get them in the rear wheel wells
Follow this guide: https://www.racingjunk.com/news/how-to-get-perfect-rear-wheel-and-tire-fitment/ The steel wheels used on mid 80's early 90's Crown Victorias will clear as they have the right positive offset. https://www.carid.com/ford-factory-steel-wheels/? i dont think so i had an 85 grand marquis and it wouldnt take old hubcabs.. neither would my grandpas 90 crown vic
No but these are kind of cool too. https://www.ebay.com/itm/D-2003-201...122538&hash=item3427f578f1:g:mmoAAOSwDcJcdZsL On the upside these Crown Vic wheels clear disc brakes if you ever upgrade, your 50's wheels will not.
Thanks for the answers. There are 8" wheels on the rear of my '55 put there by the previous owner. The tires scrub at times and I need more narrow tires there. It has an 8" rear so I need wheels with the 2 7/8" center opening. I like the small hubcap look on this car and want to keep that option. It is beginning to look like aftermarket is my only option.
On the upside these Crown Vic wheels clear disc brakes if you ever upgrade, your 50's wheels will not.[/QUOTE] My stock wheels clear the Granada discs on my car. The only modification needed was to turn the hub area down on the rotors.
I had 15x7 wheels with 215/75/r15 white walls and I had a rub on the drivers side rear with no blocks. I dont know what the backspacing is on them, but I ended up ditching those wheels and going back to my stock wheels with 670 firestone bia plys. As far as radial tire size, 205/75r15 is recommended. My rub may have just been from the backspacing being off, but with lowering blocks, the old wheel combo I had wouldnt fit at all.
I first started selling tires back in '68 at Sears when there were still the old tire sizes like 670X15 and the dawn of the 78 & 70 series began. The 670 X 15 in today's world would be an 85 series, but not all tires share the same section width or tread width even though the size marking on the tire is the same in the majority of cases the lower the price of the tire the less the section width and tread width tends to be "You pay less, you get less" and it has to come from somewhere. A good example of that is Pep Boys Cornell 1000 which I have on the rear of my '54 they are 195/75/14's on 14" X 6" U.S.Mags the front tires are 195/75/14 Yokohamas and they rub if put them on the rear.
