Bought a set of '34 Ford wire wheels thinking they were 16" 1935s. Shoulda had my measuring tape. Anyways, anyone using 17 x 3.25s? Pros/cons? What is the widest tire that I can run on these? Know if I can get a nobby military tire to fit these? Couldn't find any on the Coker site. Someone point me in the right direction please. Pics are always appreciated.

It doesn't seem that many people are using them, About two years ago, before everyone started using the 16" wires we had about 80 16"ers and about 50 17"ers, Now we dont have any of the 16s left but still have all the 17s. What do you want pictures of?

16s will be about 17" OD and 17s will be about 18" OD
Heres a part of something a wrote a little while ago and it gives some ways to tell them apart without measureing and has some pictures
    Thanks,
    Jimmy

These are 18"x3 1/4" wheels with welded spokes. The spokes are single cross on top and bottom. Hubcap hole size is 5 3/4, as is the rest of the wheels mentioned here forward. Unlike the two Model A wheels the lugnuts on these are covered by the hubcap.

These are 17"x3 1/4" rims that are pretty much the same as 32s.

Same as 32-34 wheels but they're 16"x4" These are by far the most plentiful because back in the war years, when a car needed new tires, a set of these wheels with new tires could be had for less than a set of 17" or 18" tires because of the price of rubber if you could find them. A good way to tell these apart from 17s and 18s without measuring is the valve stem hole. The 16" has a normal hole in the flat part of the rim, while 17" and 18" have the hole in a humped up area. (see pictures of the 17" and 18")

Damn, you put a 7" wide tire on a 3.25" wheel? That's not gonna cause any problems?

I did that for 20 years with no problems. Of course if you listen to what others say, they will try to convince you not to do it.:)
