Started the mock up of my 30 Model A prior to paint and found the bottom of oil pan is to low. I have a SBF 289 with OEM front sump oil pan. I would like to find a front sump pan with a depth around 6.5" I have found a GT40 pan witch is 6.5 deep but expensive. I also thought that a rear sump pan might help since it is shallow in front but not sure it would solve the problem but might help. Does anyone know of a Low Profile pan that is approximately 6.5 inch deep and will not send me to the poor house. Thanks in advance for your feedback.
Not to familiar with that ****ific engine but could you chop the pan and shorten the pick-up tube? Chappy
When I built my coupe with a 302 , I put a rear sump pan on and it measures about 6.5 deep . I don't remember where I got it but I think it was just a stock pan and was only about $150 .
I don’t know the dimensions, but what about the stock double hump pan from a Fox body Ford? Maybe an engine swap pan for a 302 in a Ranger? Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Best place for an OEM style rear sump pan is your local Ford dealer, unless you want something fancy or finned.
Your ch***is mount looks good. I do notice the mount to the motor looks like it may flex under hard acceleration, or hard braking. I am no ch***is engineer and am not trying to be critical. Just an observation.
Yes, that is a possibility however my current pan is a cheap chrome pan so have to purchase a new one. Thanks for feedback.
Yes, I think that is my best possible fix at this point. I measured a rear sump pan and it is about 6.5 in the front and 7.5 in the rear. This should help my situation. I also found a pan at Speedway which is a circle track pan that has same dimensions. I would like to find a 6.5 front sump pan that I can afford. Thanks again for feedback.
Thanks everyone for the feedback. Looks like my desire for a low stance coupe has some issues to be resolved, however I will overcome. I'm sure this is not a first, so must be a fix. I greatly appreciate your time and feedback.
Looks to me you could raise the Motor around 2" just by switching the Motor mount bracket side to side. Ford Bronco used a stock front sump Pan. Any Bronco 302 pan will bolt on direct and be the shallowest one you can get. You will also need the Pick up tube and the Main bolt stud for the tube. If you want to go on the Cheep route find the use part supplier for your local Machine shop that supplies Cores to them. I've bought those parts from them from $30.oo to $50.oo, You don't need Brand new when it comes to holding Oil, Clean will be just fine.
P.S. Unless your a real good welder don't modify a pick up tube. Weld ******s on the inside of the tube will end up in the Motor. That's never good.
I've got one of the rear sump/double hump Bronco pans right here in front of me. The deepest part of the sump is 7 7/8" to the gasket surface. That's the rear portion of course. I have the pick up tube for it as well. PM me if you want to go that route. Warning- those pans have no dipstick tube option and you can't use the 289 dipstick in the timing cover, because of the rear sump.
I learned you can use the 289/302 front dipstick. Fluid seeks it's own level and the front section that houses the pump is full of oil also. That's why there is 2 drain plugs. The total full level is above the high point between the two low sections.
Thanks for the feedback and offer on the Bronco Pan. A friend has a 5.0 Mustang rear sump pan that I'm going to try. It has about the same dimensions as your pan, from what I can tell. If that fails to work I will be in contact. Again thanks for the feedback.
Thanks for feedback, looks like oil level measurement may now raise its ugly head. I will give your idea a try and thanks again.
