History 55 chevy gasser find!!!

WHEN I JUST SAW THOSE SEATS THEY ARE COOL IM GOING TO LOOK INTO THOSE SOON.... iVE BEEN MOTIVATED! i actually had luck with my 56 as well, i bought mine for 800$ and traded the original frame for a 57 g***er straight axel equiped set up straight across... i just bought a 57 olds rear that came out of a 40 ford drag car she holds 5.30s i paid 6 bills for it . im just slowly ***ming around the corner. next is the wheel wells. im graphing 55 buick wells in the rear... keep up the good work bro...

I need advise, my axle is too wide as I have stated before. 46-53 front I-beam streight axle is 50-1/2 king pin to king pin, thats what I need. Now the problem is my leaf spring location is 31-3/4 center to center. On the 46-53 truck axle its 26.6 center to center of leaf springs. What in the Phuck do I do with that???? Am I stuck with what ive got? does anyone else have this problem? and corrected it somehow? I dont want to cut off what ive got but it seems that is the only way to get all my wants and needs fixed. I want my wheels at stock width and what I have now looks stupid....Please help. What other streight axle has 31-3/4 center to center on leaf spring mounts and 50 inch king pin to king pin? Well if you don't want to cut anything you're going to have to get a tube axle made that accepts your spindles. That would be your easiest solution.

 

please tell me more, how does it connect to my leaf springs, do i need to use radious rods or hairpins? what about the shock mount? who makes one for my aplication/ thanks swade41.

 

i appoligise for my lack of knowledge on these front ends. Never had one like this before. Lots of guess work and head scratching, especialy since this front end was made in the late 60's with s****s put together and not knowing the origin of alot of parts on the car ie brake braket cut out and mede to accept disk brakes, the calipers, what the axle was out of, the reason one wheel is 3.7 inches further forward than the other. some say it was a way to cheat the light, others think it was lazyness, and I think someone quit in the middle and said phuck it hints the ****py welds after the frame rails were welded in. i do really apreciate the input.

 

what size tire and wheels you running on the back an whats the offset​

 

You really don't need a different front axle. The 55-59 axle is not too wide if you run the right wheel, with the right backspacing. Of course with a 7" wheel it will always look too wide, but a 3.5"-4.5" wheel will fit and look great.
Why not look into a pair of Rocket 10 spokes if you don't mind new, or a used pair of slots in narrow width?
I had a '56 Chev truck axle in my '55 g***er with 4.5x15 Fenton slots and skinny tires. It looked great, but 3.5"x15" look a tiny bit better! That's what I'm running on my present g***er. Found mine on the G***er Forum complete with new tires for $500 a pair.

heres a ford axel with 15x4.5 rockets 5.60 firestones piecrust on the front to me it looks dead on for width....hope this helps

A 67 427 Block with Vette Suffix Code is valuable... as is a complete correctly dated 1970 LS6 - as long as the factory ***embly Stamps (behind the Alternator on the flat pad Ex: T0505JJ decodes to Tonowanda ***embly 5th month 5h day JJ - L89) and block broaching are unaltered.

Both are most likely worth more than the cost of buying and building an engine to the same or better specs.

A complete dated 70 LS6 engine will bring 5-6k or more as a restoration engine to install in a car which was built during the same time period, if the car is still around the owner may be willing to pay MUCH MORE!

There is a ton of straight axle stuff on the HAMB, just do a search and take your time wading through it all.

Also, talk to the guys at Speedway Motors. Their straight axle kit is as complete as they come. Comes as transverse leaf or parallel leaf, droped or straight.
