I need help. I’m installing new (stock) king pins on my 1950 Mercury. The kit came with a spindle bearing that is slightly narrower than the original bearing. It also came with shims to make up the difference. The bearing will go on top of the spindle, my question is: do the shims go on the opposite side ( bottom) of the spindle? The manual makes no reference to shims and I know on a straight axle Ford they are generally put on the opposite use of the bearing on the spindle. Thanks!

The shims go under the bearing base..( stationary) you do not want them at a point of rotation..it will damage them
