i would like to change taillights. right now i have '50 Pontiacs and it's time for a change. anyone have any suggestions on a taillight i could use that fits and looks killer? i was thinking of using '54 Mercurys like Larry Watson's "Grapevine". i'm open to all input. thanks.
Hey I remember talking to you at the carshow in Huntington across from Huntington Center Mall along time ago. My buddy Eric Erickson had the flamed 55 T bird. I think you were working for Barris at the time- or still are? Anyway, I would love to see someone use 54 Pontiac station wagon taillights on a Chevy. They are the ones that Sam Barris installed on his Buick fastback. The shape of your fender just cries out for them. Or, just do simple shoebox taillights turned vertical. If you want to run the shoebox taillights with the whole windsplit deal down the side just like the Ford, I have a parts car that I will cut them off of for you. 51 Ford lights turned vertical would look killer also...
take a look at the taillights on a 51-54 English Ford Zephyr. Not the later ones with a reflector.I,ll see if I can find you a link
how about early 50s Cad back up light lenses , with those red bulbs the ricers use .Oldschool clear tailights.
The 54 Mercs look good in those 51-52 chevys. Night Prowlers and Wirths usta sell repop tailight lenses..
[ QUOTE ] '50 Ford mnounted vertical with Lee lenses. [/ QUOTE ] I was thinkin' the same thing. Simple n clean. Nuthin' like the shoebox light.
I don't have photoshop, but maybe those skinny vertical lenses from a '63? Chrysler Imperial or something? That might be neat.
Try late 70's Ford Torino...they're similiar to '54 Merc...only smoother and probably more plentiful & cheaper in junk yards. R-

[/ QUOTE ] chopt50, that wasn't me that you had talked to. that was the previous owner of the car. i bought the car from him in October. his name is Brad and he still works at Barris. he is working at Bill Hines' shop on the weekends. thanks everyone for your suggestions. if anyone wants to photoshop a set of shoebox taillights vertically or another of the suggestions feel free to do so. anyone in the so-cal area do custom bodywork? thanks.
howz about '55 chevy taillights flipped upside down and 'worked' into the fender (sort of accentuate the flat portion with a little overhanging lip sorta deal... i could whip up a quick drawing if it would help to clarify my idea... tred.
yeah, i think it would fit almost perfectly. your fenders don't quite come to such a vertical 'peak' like the dodge pictured above, so not as much metalwork involved. and you know you'll probably never see another set up like it... we might be on to something here...
