This is my first Model A,so I'm flying blind here.
Trying to get engine placement nailed down, this looks good to me.Engine angle looks right.Nice and tight to firewall. But P/S head is closer.Do I just relieve the firewall? What have ya'll done here? I'll toss in some extra pictures as a little update too...

And my patented jack stands.Ever try to get a cherry picker under a low I-beam car? No matter where you put jack stands they git in the way.So I just prop the car on some spare V8-60 wheels(the Divco's I use as blue tarp weights on the shed)

What are you still doing up? It's like nearly 3am in Denver right now=Lol! Insomniac! Id just relieve the firewall on the right side to the point of clearing the off brand head:rolleyes: Then just check for steering column/box clearance with the exh mocked up as well. everything else shold be fine.
No go to sleep=you can worry about this stuff in the morning;) :D.

Sleeping is for lazy people.
If I fire up the welder during the day I keep hearing the neighborhood kids crying about how the sparks hurt and they can't see.
So I work in the garage at night alot.
I got a hammer I'll go fix that firewall now ! hmm maybe in the morning.

Its important that you throw a level on top of that thickstun and be sure its right. Strombergs and holleys need to set as level as possible to run right. Are you going to run a mechanical pump? They take up some space. I'd forward the engine a smidge if I could. Engine looks great!

From your pics I think you have the engine mounts a little further back than most AV8s.
Have you checked out the pos***ioning in Vern Tardels book , "How to Build a Traditional Ford Hot Rod ??

couple of quick questions,
what are you running for a ******
what are you running for a crossmember
what are you running for water pumps

if you are running an early ford ****** and a 32 crossmember the placement of the k-member should be based off of the front crossmember. This way if at some point you decide to run a standard wishbone you can without cutting your car up, and this will give you the generic starting point of every single Av8 since 1932. just measure the distance on any 32 with a stock K-member with a 32 wishbone. with this setup you can run pretty much any v8 that has a hurst adapter mounted to a early ford ******.

I've found it's like a domino affect, you gotta mock it up over and over, there are just too many combinations, what ever you do don't rely on a book, there's a lot of miss information in some of them. What headers are you using, what steering set up, and the fuel pump. Which fan set up ? Every hot rod is different, are you gonna use a hood ? Mock up the radiator, fan, hoses, etc. Which pedals, I had the most trouble getting the steering box, headers, and pedals all too fit in with each other, I know it's a pain, but ya just gotta mock it up over and over. It looks like a really cool car, and really nice work. Good luck.

Figure your steering out NOW. Space is TIGHT and you don't want to have to mess with it after the mounts are in. And I second the question about the mechanical pump.

My motor was right about where your is - and I ended up making that engine turned and slightly recessed firewall. (if you've seen it) I like it a lot but it was a lot of work just to fix some motor mounts that were an inch or so too far back.

Late night thrash...engine needs to go forward 1" exactly.
Good point there KL.
This is the "LOS" coupe.Left over special.
Found a 1934 steering box in the rafters I'm going to use.Home made trans mount and 46 pedals.."39 trans" later mount.

I've built several 32 frames all with stock K members and those build themselves.
Body is mounted to stock holes,it's in the right spot.
Updates to follow.
THANKS !
up at the crack of noon !

That looks awsome!

Mine looked just like yours when I first mocked it up. Then I decided to releive the firewall for fuel pump and P.S. head clearence.
I will go take a couple pictures......

I hope these pictures help.
I dont have steering in yet so I cant help you there. Maybe someone else will see this thread...Im right where your at and am scratching my head thinking of the steering set up.

Here is a picture of the "wedge". I cut on both sides of the firewall right next to the stamped in line to hide everything. Then folded it back till the bottom was 2.5" back from stock. Worked out great for the fuel pump and now I have plenty of clearence for the heads.

Best part of all is that when looking straight at it you cant tell that anything happend to the firewall. When painted no one will ever know.

Vaphead,

I can't echo enough. mock that thing up before you finalize anything. Get the rad. & grille sheel on, hood top (if using one), steering box/column & trans. in.

I've changed my mind about 5 times on my '28 roadster A-V8 before I decided on where it should go.

I also agree that keep the motor as level as possible.

Good luck

16. Eric -

You stole the motor out of your wife's truck!

Hey it looks good! You should come by and check out my roadster, I'm working on the firewall now. I'd send pic's but my camera is on the fritz!

When I set it up originally, it was for the '30 Tudor sedan body, I had to move the motor forward an inch or so. attached are older pic's. I can measure it in the am.
