Alright, I just spoke with WHEELKID and he did not know, nor do I. Is there anyway to replace just the stainless center cap on the tin hubcap for the wide-5 16" Ford wheels? How many have good steel bodies but the stainless "button" is junk?!

Just GOTS to be a way to replace with a later cap or something......

  2. I'm not aware of any replacements for just the stainless part, but if you're good at straightening stainless, the easiest way to get the stainless part off is to place the cap upside down over a plastic bucket with a bunch of rags or old towels down in the bottom. Drill a 1/8" hole from the back side of the cap through the sheet metal but not through the stainless as close to center as possible. Then use a blow-off nozzle on your air hose, give it a good shot of compressed air. This will usually pop them right off.

I realize you would like to save the old ones but new replacement licensed Ford wide five hubcaps are available and not very expensive. I bought a set of them and they were very nice. I think I bought them from Sullivan's Garage on Ebay and they were made by Vintique. <center>

Several companies sell the new stainless centers that povertyflats speaks of.

  5. Dunno if this helps, but I can get you a measurement on the OD of the smaller cap.

It's a repro that's a couple inches smaller on the OD that may do it for you.
The larger cap is a stock size 48 Ford.*

    Internal clips as well.

*One small note, the 48 caps are re-pro for Vintique style ten lug hole wheels.
I had some gennie caps and they didn't fit right.

So the Vintiques are specific to the ten luggers.

The little caps are made for the Street Rod style wire wheels.
They come in quite a few patterns including smooth.

I may have 4 good stainless covers already off of the cap. I'll check tomorrow.

How many sacks of flour does a set of those go for? ....AND do you find the air pressure/poppin' off thing works as well?

Paint detailing these wheels is one of the reasons I dig them so....unlimited options of timeless combinations.

I have a NOS set of '38 Delux caps (I think that what they are off of). They have the smaller chunkier V8 in the center and a different shape all together. I like these best because they follow the shape of '40 and later caps.

That’s worked! I drilled the hole and pumped air in and the stainless popped off. Some of them didn’t pop off but the air separated it and made it easy to pry off.
