Wow Scooby, just saw this and all I can say is take advice of what people said and do***ent everything, phone calls, dates, times, lots of pics.

I can not believe the line that they only have to pay you the amount you paid for the car. They have to pay fair value, just because you got a good deal you get screwed? BS. Fair value is definitely depending if you can prove some celebrity history.

Sorry to hear about your upcoming h***les, it will not be fun, but stick to yourknowledge of what the real value is and make sure they understand that.

HaHa...The 54 Ford was just a wild stallion. It couldn't be contained. It wanted to be on the road! I wish this one had an equally happy ending. Same highway though....

Wow man.... sorry to hear (and see) this happpen.

I have a 60 lincoln and I've had a lot of close calls here on the LA freeways. I always think about what I would do if it were hit and had seriouse damage. Parts are hard to come by and expensive, so I don't know if I'd have the ability to put mine back together.

I love seeing 58-60 Lincs becuase they are few and far between. I hope you can fix it and that things work out for you with the insurance and other.

    Goozgaz :(

as has been said first and formost get the car cleared back into your possesion and do***ent it being put away in accessable dry storage until this mess is settled. if it sits in a lot for a week it will be way worse than it is now. secondly trace the history on the car NOW. ASAP. thats gonna be a huge leg for you if it was a celeb car. i don't see that NADA value being anywhere close to on the mark anyway if their are 9 of them known to be left. that alone drives the value up.try and get as much do***entation on the car pre accident as you can. photos, etc. it looks like it was a damned clean car. do not settle for what you paid for it. so what if you were lucky and got it for a bargain. that has nothing to do with it's true value. people buy low and sell high all the time. thats the name of the game.. determine the cars REAL value and don't settle for less. the car is fixable and should be fixed esp if it was a star car. seeing something like that meet it's maker with the crusher would just be wrong. if the car sat as long as you say it probably didn't have to many owners. tracing the vin should be fairly easy. even if it cost you a few bucks do it. it could pay back 10000 fold. i'll go ahead and say this will probably be a slow process. the last time i dealt with an ins co like this it took almost 2 years to reach a settlement. in this case it'll be worth your wait i'm sure. i still say fix the car or sell it to someone who will...ken....

That's terrible. I love the old caddy limos and that looks like a really decent ride. There is an attorney here in town that specializes in 18 wheeler accidents from all over the country. Let me know when you get pissed off and want a piece of em I give you his name. I wouldn't let them get away with this.

    wow, sorry about the accident.

Like said before, the cars value before the accident isnt just the purchase price. If Elvis' limo was given to you for free, does it mean the actual (if appraised) $850,000 price is null in void.

Research this more, if you accept the offer from the insurance company, than you accept that it's worth the "squirt of piss" price they offer. If its worth a considerable amount of money; you know it, and so does the previous owners) and thier's history attached to it...it's should be a well worth effort.

Insurance companies want to pay out as less as possible...they act like they are on your side, but actually, they could care less until you miss the premium payment.

Does the previous owner have any pictures of the car before shipment?

I would go after everyone involved....if your insurance company is not cooperating, then get the dough out of someone elses insurance company. Get the ball rolling in every direction so you get your fair amount.

Again, sorry dude. My stomach hurts just looking at it. (Yack!)

The VALUE and the price that you may have PAID, have no relation to each other. This Spring, I bought a Cadillac Allante for my wife. Short story, it got trashed, State Farm paid me on the VALUE, (10K), not what I PAID, (7K).

Don't let some arrogant insurance adjuster try to convince you otherwise. Good luck. Stu

Yeah, what Stu said. I had my '71 Mustang stolen. Had paid 4K for it but they settled with me for $6,400 after I pestered them long enough. The words "Insurance Commissioner" really sped things along too.

go regiter the car and pay the state tax on 500 grand, then show the INS compy that,........cause who would inflate the price and pay more in tax everyone trys to beat the tax, worked for me.

Sorry for the loss, but the car can be fixed... tons of money though. I know someone that completely made some quarters recently. I would not settle for the insurance peoples advice.

Don't know if you care right now but there is a Lincoln for sale across the street from the Toledo Airport (Rte 2). It has some front end damage but says runs $3200 I believe. If you want, I'll drive down and get some photos for you and the number. It was there 2 weeks ago when I went to Australia. Looks like you could use a few of the parts...I'm pretty sure it is the same year and color. You would only have to paint over the JB welded seams when you glued the two together!

I'm taking tomorrow off and running over to get what's left of it. I had to borrow my boss' F250 as I wouldn't trust my F100 or it's drum brakes with the 8000 pound car/trailer combo. It would be cruel to wreck it again. I won't have the police report until probably Friday or Monday. The whole thing seems wrong somehow so I'd like to know the real story. If the truck driver fell asleep and rearended my car on it's trailer, I don't understand why the transporter is wanting to pay me out of pocket for the price of the car now and why his insurance would say anything about what they would pay. Seems to be the that driver of the 18 wheeler owes us all. I hear it could take a year or more to get payment that way. I don't understand that either as no other car accident takes that long. Should be interesting...in a really painful and tragic way.

A friend driving a 1930 Packard got ***ended by a Peterbilt years ago, rode it out dirt track style in the median kept it from rolling over. The 18 wheeler had to pay for a FULL $100,000.00+ restoration, on an ORIGINAL car that up till then nobody in his right mind would think of restoring. Just like the Lincoln, different brand and vintage that's all.

Scooby.....get that car home and take pictures of everything. That car is one fine ride and you can show it (even thought its crunched) in lots of pictures. Play hardball with the insurance folks when they try that lowball ****. Do not let anybody try to screw you over. Get an aprraisal from a cl***ic car spe******t for its pre-damaged value , and try your best to find out the history as soon as possible ( hell Howard Hughes may have knocked off a piece of *** in the back ). A one of nine surviving car like that don't come cheap to repair. What you paid for it don't have a damn thing to do with what it is worth. Take no ****...take no prisoners...you will prevail in this! I hate that your car was ****ed up but I'm glad nobody was hurt. The Brotherhood of The HAMB is with you on this all the way. If I can be of ***istance let me know.

Sir Scooby, print all of this thread out and file it along with anything else you recieve or find out. The advice thus far has been spot on and some very good ideas also.

This model was also one of Kennedy's favorites. Fingers crossed on that one for ya.

I can help you out on some of this for "Free" "Gratis" "Nada" "Zilch" "ZERO".

As a former truck driver and owner along with being in this industry my whole life damn near makes me even madder about this. There is no excuse for accidents (if you can call stupid an accident) like this.

My business is specific to heavy trucking and advising executives and company on what to do right in all of their business. I have a bunch of contacts who can help us cut through the ****.

Also DO NOT TAKE ANY MONEY from anybody that DOES NOT have a real job with an insurance company. Truck driver will avoid a chargeable accident to his record to save his sorry *** and his job by doing this. Or his primary insurance carrier. DON'T DRINK THE FLAVOR-ADE (real drink used in Jonestown was not Kool-Aid btw).

I will pm you all of my info so you can get in touch if you need more help.

man i went through this same **** back on valentine's day when i was sitting still in traffic and a girl that wasn't paying attention slammed into my '66 Chevelle. she hit me and knocked me into the next car. both ends of the car were damaged pretty bad. me and the insurance company went round and round for about two months until i was finally able to get them to pay up $12 grand as long as i surrendered the salvage to them. if i wanted to keep it, i would only get $6600. but it was going to cost me 10 grand to fix it. so i let it go. after it being my daily driver for about 6 years. i only had 7500 in it(it was in good original condition) but it was a pain to get them to bend my way. it ****ed losing that car. i can't imagine how awful it is to lose something that may have had that much history in it on top of being a cool car. good luck.

Did you pay the guy for it, or just give him 10% down? :p

My dad had a fight with Santa Fe railway in Texas years ago -- some calves ran through a GOOD fence (pack of wild dogs spooked them) [yep, wild dogs -- not coyotes, different attack styles] and got on the right of way.

Lawyers kept dragging it out finally, in mid summer after calves had been buried for six months, they wanted him to dig them up.

Judge decided it wasns't necessary. What no one noticed was those calves had kept gaining weight, just like their living brothers.

Have patience. Lawyers don't get in a hurry since they get paid anyway.

    good luck!
