Hot Rods 1929 Whippet sea container find

Just bought a 29 Whippet 4 door sedan today. It's all original and has been in a container for years. Plans are to get it running and enjoy it.

 

With an opening story like that, we're going to need to hear more of the backstory. Nice looking car BTW

Liking this container find . Been wondering, on road behind my house, there is a shed with 3 or 4 50- 54 Chevy trucks and couple of containers, no house within a mile or more though.

 

Solid blast from the past and as noted that is certainly unusual front and rear Bumpers...Great capsule...have fun with it...metal many times outlasts us...

 

Don't see many Whippets, and that looks like very solid survivor.

 

I just knew someone was going to mention Devo.

The fellow I bought it from has had it for about 15 years. He bought it locally here in the Baltimore area from a guy that had it about 20-25 years. It supposedly ran 12 years ago so time will tell on that. Appears to have been repainted many years ago as the firewall and parts of the door jambs are green. I'll update when it fires up!

 

Bumpers are the correct type.

I guess it is just one of those things that makes Brands different...and those differences aren't a guarantee your Company will survive the test of time...

Cool find, it looks like there were more than one model of 29 Whippet and the other may have had a bumper that looked a lot like Model A bumpers.

 

The picture of the back of the car shows the difference between wheels and rims.

 

Damn it all to heck! Here I take the better portion of a day off to get some shit done, git a break, log on to the HAMB, see a perfect thread to impart some wiseassery and you already gone and done wiseassed it beforein I got there...I am depressed.

But seriously, what a great find. I hope it fires right up and runs good. It’s always kind of exciting to see such early cars come out of hiding.

Great find. I know where a guy has a bunch of containers with old cars in them. One is supposedly a 34 5 window. They are still out there!

 

Cool find. Much better built car than a Ford in it's day. And the purchase price reflected that. But it seems most cars produced back in that era were better built, and had more style than a Ford. Ford didn't survive because he built better cars, he survived because he produced cheaper cars. And like today, the public responded with their wallets. Back then Ford was just an early form of what we'd call an "off shore" product today.

 

Ford was the Walmart or speedway motors of the day.
