Yes and No. It will come in as a salvage ***le or, you can complete the rebuild and submit the CA salvage ***le when you ask for the Texas rebuilt ***le. In the end you will have a Texas ***le that states the car was reconditioned. Physical inspection by a DPS officer, safety inspection, etc. required.
Another way, if you were to use a new frame or frame from another car, is to request a new builders ***le and submit the CA ***le as one of the donors.

  3. Another thing.

I use to have a rebuilders license for years, and in a lot of states you as a private individual can not own a slavage ***le vehilce.....legally, which is not to say you can't physically have possesion of it, but if they want to be ****s they can take it away from you and get all up in the *** of the dealer who you got it from.....be that as it may, the problem comes in that a private individual can not legally fill out the paperwork, take it to the Sec. Of State (which we have in IL., otherwise known as DMV) and have them do the inspection and process the paperwork to get that "rebuilt" ***le back. Here, only a salvage dealer, or licensed rebuilder can own salvage ***led vehicles, and have a salvage/ pre-rebuilt ***le ***igned to them.....after it's a "rebuilt" ***le, anyone can own it....but the banks got wise and stopped loaning in RB ***les so the advantage was mostly suicked out of rebuilding here unless you sell to cash buyers.

You have to be a licensed rebuilder to take it in....then you have to have receipts of all body parts & major hulks that have been replaced or spliced in, they put them on a lift and check for sectioning, other serial #'s etc.

Trust me, here in IL., if you don't be straight with them and have receipts from real brick and mortar salvage yards & auto parts places to prove the VIN# of the car they came from, they'll keep your **** and you'll leave that day without the car and have to come back with receipts for that quarter cut, or roof section, etc.....or uless you bought fenders and bumpers, etc new, you can have the receipts. I went through these deals for years with late model rebuilders, they're F'n serious about it.

I'm not saying this is the way it works in every state, but it gives you an idea of how it works here.....and nowadays, things are getting very standardized between states so you can't run and wash them to good ***les in KY. like a lot of builders in the midwest used to do....

I didn't have frame damage, I was in a simple fender bender and I was dumb enough to use my insurance - they totaled my car and I bought it back. I have had the damage repaired... by a buddy (no reciept). Oh, well... I was hoping that the laws in Texas were similar to Orgeon. I have heard that if you sell a car there and then buy it back then it "cleans" the salvage ***le.

    thanks guys.

You won't have too much trouble with getting a ***le and registration here, but it will always have some indication of it's previous status. The best you can hope for is probably a reconditioned vehicle.

There are ways of cleaning a salvaged ***le in CA. (It doesn't matter the extent of the damage either when dealing with a salvaged ***le) Talk some people about a lien sale, then start fresh in TX.

  7. Maybe some of the ARKANSAS guys [can help]- I have heard that their state does not automatically re***le salvage cars as a salvage car, when it comes in from outside arkansas......

Hey uptown, call the DMV in the county you are moving to. I don't think that because your moving to Texas that your going to "wipe the slate clean", for your sake, I hope I'm wrong but, Texas is really cracking down on this stuff and going thru it with a fine tooth comb. Between the flood of people moving here and the Mexican border, Texas has it's eye on that stuff and have some of the tightest laws. If you have a current ***le, you'll probably just get the same here. Please let me know how this turns out, OK? Thanks. Edit: Because of all the damaged cars from Katrina and Rita (hurricanes) they have turned up the bureaucracy. Good luck!

i've heard similar stories here where you can register a salvage car in texas then re-register it back here in az and it washes the ***le. kinda like back to new.

then again i've never done it... just heard people talking about it.

Do you plan to move to Texas, or just need a new ***le for some reason?

The wife and I are kicking around the idea of moving from San Diego to Austin. My insurance co. just totaled a car that I have about $8000 into for a fender bender. I'd like to be able to clean the ***le, it's not like I'm trying to sell it or p*** off a car with a munched frame.

    - Plan 2 is to use the ***le from a rusted out car that I just bought.
