Are there any H.A.M.B.ers that live in or near Edmond, OK. My youngest son is in route from Columbus, Ohio, to L.A. and his S-10 kicked the rods out and died in Edmond. Send me a PM, I need to ask as favor.

Uhhh. Young son, rods out. Been there. Now I love my son but some times tigers eat their young for a reason.

Turn clock back a few years.
    Phone ringing....
Tardo (Son): Dad, dude the car just stopped running.
Me: So dude like was it making noise?
Tardo: Well it seemed kinda noisy but it was running ok. (picture radio getting louder here) Then all of the sudden it went bang, boom, boom, boom, screech, stop dead. There is all kinds of stuff outside the oil pan and the block.
Me: (remaining as calm as possible) When did you check the oil?
Tardo: Last time I changed oil.
Me: (not so calm here) That was over two months ago.
    Tardo: Yeah.
Me: And I told you to open the hood and check all fluids every tank. To look for spots and seepage. To treat it like it had to last one hundred years.
    Tardo: Yeah.
Me: So how much oil came out?
    Tardo: Oil?
Me: Doing my best Louis Black impression...Yeah FUCKIN OIL! What the hell have we been talking about? HOW MUCH OIL IS LEFT IN THE PAN? HAVE YOU CHECKED THE OIL? IS IT LEAKING EVERYWHERE? WHERE IS THE OIL THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE IN THE FUCKING OIL PAN?
(Now suddenly getting more bright) Son: You know I been smeeling something kind of funny for a few days. Like something hot or burning. Do you think that might have something to do with it?

Me: Hang up and bang head repeatedly on desk while saying where did I go wrong for many hours.

Now I love my kid. That being said I have also wanted to commit random acts of violence but haven't. I tried to teach but lessons are sometimes just better learned by figuring out you shouldn't run with scissors or sticks. You could put an eye out you know.

And I feel for the parents because this crap NEVER happens at the end of your street. It is always 500 miles from home.

So all said I would drive 200 miles to make sure kid is ok and help another dad out.

Root picked up the truck for me last night, my Son went on to California in a U-Haul. They'll be issues getting the vehicle running again but that's another story in itself. The point is, that I put a post out to try and get my Son out of a Jam, and I had calls from Roothawg and Weldit in a matter of minutes. I think it speaks volumes for their character and generally speaking, the kind of folks that hang out on this message board. I think Ryan and his associates need to be commended for creating a site that attracted an international brotherhood of great folks!

Root is a good guy, I don't care what ya'll say about him. :D

John and JK, I'm about 4 hrs. or so from Root, but I know a guy locally that wants to sell 3-4 S-10s. He mentioned it last week when I dropped off his new model A project.

He had bought a few trucks (some that had been hit to some degree) to put together a truck for his son and then the kid switched plans on him. One of them was back halved and pro street already.

I'll see him today and get the skinny on them.

Thanks for the kind words. The motor appears to be locked up so we will have to sort out getting a motor for it. It's a 97 S-10, I think they have the 2.2 4 cylinder if anyone knows of one in the OKC area.

  18. Try G&R. That's the first place that popped into my mind. Carey's CCC or Red at Northeast Salvage might be another option.

Damn, I should get my head out of the tech articles more often and check in here. I feel like an ass for not being around to help.

i just put one in my 96 isuzu hombre (same as s10)...it came from a 97 Pontiac Sunfire. Suposedly the 2.2 is the same for S10, Hombre, Cavalier, Sunfire from like 95-98. I know that you will need to use the upper intake, sensors, coils and a few small brackets from your truck but everything else went in just fine. As long as you have your motor and that one next to each other you'll see and it will go smooth.

FYI - I paid 200 for mine from a junkyard in Dallas

No problem I always miss the fun stuff. Freaked out kid on the side of the highway. Dad on the phone ready to kill him. Roothawg to the rescue.
