A friend of mine just bought an original 1964 Impala SS with an original dual 4bbl carb 409 and 4 speed. Someone put headers on it, and he wants to put the stock exhaust manifolds back on it. Are 348 manifolds the same as 409's, are all years the same? Does the 2 4bbl engine have it's own exhaust manifolds? Anyone got any for sale?

  2. The dual four motors have unique manifolds. I don’t know small details or casting numbers but They do take expensive manifolds. Try 348-409.com for accurate info

Yes, As I recall the "standard" manifolds were the same between the two engines, but I would double check that with simple measurements.

As Scotty states, yes, the 425hp "manifolds" are very different vs. the standard manifold. Much smoother flowing inside, also a different look on the outside.
I know that these were pretty expensive back when I had my 409 (61 Impala), about 20 years ago. They were also prone to cracking/breaking. I found a LOT that had breaks in them. The set that I bought had a burnthrough hole in one of them. They are pretty thin castings.
I had it welded, never had a problem afterward.

Check the WEB, there are a couple of outlets for these engines...NONE are cheap.

The 63-64 409 425 hp had manifolds with long runners. If you find a pair of originals they will be expensive. That is why they probably put headers on the engine. 62 409 409hp has a different style manifold which is similar to the 348. Dr. 409 has a web site with all the factory numbers.

Yes, the 425 units are very hard to find. Last one I had sold for 800 a side and that was almost 10 years ago. I have a buddy that has a ton of 409 stash. PM me if you want me to make an inquiry. He may have many others that might do the job as an alternative.
