Not only do I think they look OK, I'm running them on my roadster, and have been for a number of years.
Thank you, originally I was going to use the light bar . Figured it would block the view of the awesome 34 grille.
WOW !!!! This thread is sooo... addictive !!! I started on page one and thought this is kind interesting.... By the last page, I felt re-educated on the art of the possible. Great work .... Eagerly awaiting the next instalment. Don't leave anything out. OzMerc
I agree with Bob. Although a classic cool headlight mount, and hell no don’t block that grill, they don’t seem right for the Warbaby. I think something more cast off and or fabricated is required. It may be the awesome old black paint that won’t let me see these working. Maybe if they get polished and you give the body a shiny period flashy paint color. The skills and taste you’ve shown thus far tell me you’d be coasting if you didn’t continue the trend with a possible new interpretation of an old standard. Good luck we’re counting on you. Coincidentally I was recently wondering has anyone ever extensively modified rumble seat hinges to be headlight mounts? Or are they to small in scale? I can see cutting out some of the screw hole section to have two separate oval mounts to the frame. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Hmmmmm.... that is an idea... seems it would mount the lights very low, cool. i think i have 4 or 5 pair to mess with... got to get to it.
For now I think I will put a hold on the headlight mounts and start on my gas tank. I am using a repop 32 tank rather than inside the trunk. I just like they way the rear mounted tank looks. After some measurements we discovered that the tank needs to be shortened by 2 inches. I cut the tank and will weld a new sheet of metal back in to fit the A body. Stay tuned!
there is a hight problem with an A body on '32 frames, grab your tape measure, I had to remove the heavy rear crossrail and some of the lowerpanel... the '32 body was designed to have the 4"-5" of tank above the frame... the A was not... .
I took a section on the body out so I could keep the rear subrailing , it was pretty extensive. By doing that the lower decklid panel was also shortened.
IMO, tank under frame would probably look ok from the rear, but from the side it may have that dog taking a dump look... . one adam 12- call photoshop, to let us all see if it is an option... computer skill guys to the front ! … thank you. . for the guys that haven't gotten this far yet, barn fresh California 1932 - 5 window's rear of body is 1.5" forward of the reveal in the tank...
If close you can slide the tank's mounting flange under the top rail and then bolt up through it and the frame rail... buys about 1/4"-3/8" … buddy did that on an A frame with '32 rear horns welded on... can go take pix if needed.
Update photos of the 32 tank going in. Some more cutting and grinding did the trick, now to make a new back panel.
Yes on the V8 and mounts going together... mikie likes it ! i cut the ends off of a folded under gravel shield, reversed them and clamped them on as rear frame covers... left room for a speader bar to protect the tank...
Here’s a few pictures of the 32 tank that is being modified to fit the crafty b gas cap. Once the cap is all welded and metal finished we can continue with the back panel of the tank. We made a pattern and cut out a piece of sheet metal to fit around the new cap. Got a first time lesson on metal shaping from Chris, and I think it’s going to turn out great! More to come.
