I know it was on here in another paint thread but I just want to make sure. I want a satin black color, I've found Matte Black at rural king in their Majic tractor paint oil base enamel. If I add the Majic hardner it'll have a satin finish? I've used their paint on frames before and it holds up good.

Hardner generally makes the finish more shiny. Spray a test panel with and without hardner and see which you like the best. Oil based enamel will dry and harden without hardner, but use it if you can.

  3. my PPG store has some industrial products that are not much more in cost over the oil based products. I have sprayed it, look great.
and yes there is a possibility of the hardener being a little more glossy than non hardened.
the only way to know is a test spray.
will never be as glossy as a regular black though

If they'd get it in quarts, I'd mix a qt of gloss and 1 of Matte but they didn't have qts. I know someone on here done it just can't remember the thread.

I just checked Rural Kings website and they show quarts, I'll have to see if they can get me a qt of matte and 1 of gloss. They are real bad about restocking stuff. Now that this Covid thing is here it is getting worse. I found a video of where some guy painted an old chevy truck, he used Matte black with hardner until he got to the hood and he run out of hardener, you could tell a big difference.

  7. DON'T leave out the hardener, you will regret it

I used John Deere satin black 4 years ago. Very cheap and touch up with spray can!! 20200519_152102.jpeg
