I have a '42 Ford Tudor Sedan that I am going to put aftermarket wheels (Wheel Vintiques 15" Gennies) and tires on....I was hoping to be able to fit a pair of Cooper 265/70R15 on the rear without needing to modify anything back there......looking for input before I buy the tires.
Appreciate any thoughts or previous experience.
    Thanks
    John

How wide are your new wheels?
    I installed 15 X 7 Gennies with 235-75 x 15's on my '42 & things got pretty tight.
    Looked good tho.
I have no experience with larger tire sizes.

265 mm sidewall cross section, converted to inches, is right at 10.5”. That is a lot of width to stuff into your Ford’s rear fender well. I had a ‘47 some years ago, with 235/70-15 tires and they filled the space nicely. ‘42 through ‘48 are, I believe, the same width axles and fenders.

    Nice looking Tudor.......

That’s aweful right to try to squeeze that in there. I would put the car in stands under the axle take the wheels off and start measuring to see what would fit. If you could get 265s in there with out cutting and moving the inner well I’d be shocked.

a friend has 8.50 15 bias plys on his 46 and they are real tight and not near was wide as what your talking about.

Also make sure the rear tire sidewalls "clear" the spring hangars
and inner fender panel when turning corners or when trunk is loaded.

John, back in the day (2007) at our store we would mount up test sizes for applications like yours to check fit with the customer. When we found the right size we would then sell them to the customer, balance them up and send him on the road. Surely there must be a store in your area that would help you out prior to buying the tires.??????
