So, got a new set of points for the 283 sbc. Came as a kit with the condenser. In the kit was a capsule of lube for the cam rubbing block. They mention though a lube wick, ***uming the piece of felt that keeps it properly lubed. Directions say take it out of the cello bag. Well in the only cellophane bag is just more lube?

Thought I just got a kit that was defective. Called speedway. They contacted Holley who sent out a new kit. Same exact thing, directions say take out the new lube wick but there is none...

    What am I missing?

The points currently on the car have a felt thing, but it's fastened different than these points (Accel) show i.e over the rubbing block so would have to mod it a bit to work (not hard, but really just give me the felt man... [emoji16]) 20200709_181709~2.jpeg 20200709_181743~2.jpeg

felt is pretty old fashioned, so it's not surprising the new points don't have it. Just put a dab on the side of the rubbing block, and check that it still has some every 5000 miles when you file the points.

When I was in school, my carb and ignition instructor said to buy a tube of Delco distributor cam lube and it would last me all my life. I'm 73 and still have about 95% of the tube left. Right now I only have one car with point ignition.

I bought that tube around 1989, and it's still at least 95% full

After smearing a thin layer of lube on the dist cam & after installing points do not spin dist shaft opposite the correct direction, tends to wipe the lube onto the wrong side of the rubbing block. Greg

Ok cool that it's not needed so I can get car back together, Weird to include directions for it when it's not even in the package, and to include the 2nd grease packet specifically for it...
