What I have learned so far.... 1) Tighten sun visors for first drive if car has not been driven for a long time. 2) If wife says lets drive by a friends house a couple of blocks away after a tour of the neighborhood and you know the car is overheating, take it back to the garage. 3) 49 Cad front brakes/hubs are not intended to be taken apart. 4) Vinegar works well on cleaning water p***ages in rusted up engine. 5) Parker, SKF etc master catalogs (available on line) are awesome for finding seals, u joints etc for old relics. They have the measurement guides in the back/front of the catalogs. Take the part number to NAPA, done. a)I bought the car on ebay in 2004. Been on the back burner since last spring. b) Engine serial number matches frame. c) It has 92,000 on the odometer. Don't know how many laps it has made. d) Best I can tell it was last plated in the early 80's. e) Plan to keep it mostly stock and drive the heck out of it! links to 2 videos.
whenever i drove my pieced-together '49 shoebox, kids would yell, "look, it's jed clampett!" but the smile on your face says it all!
