I don’t know about the rest of you, but I try to stay in shape and eat decently, but I had something come up and kicked my *** recently. I like to think I am tough (in the right way) and resilient and handle adversity well. I started having stomach aches and my gut blew up like a balloon at times. I figured it was nothing but diet or whatever. Well, it started being annoying, then intermittently painful, ignored it ‘cuz I’m busy. Yesterday at work it brought me to my knees, that finally convinced me. I went to the hospital and got checked out, I have an ulcer and it reduced me to a quivering m*** of jello, which, along with oatmeal, is about as exciting as my diet will get for the next three weeks. I have a box-o-drugs the size of a motorcycle battery that I have to use up over two weeks, plus some phenobarb to zonk me out. It ****s.

Please, don’t be as stubborn as I was, when something isn’t right be sure to get it checked out early. I'll heal, thank God, but I learned my lesson.

Been there, done that....GERD at 22, 1st ulcer at 24. I'm 28 now; the last six years has been an unending cycle of drugs, all of which cost around $130/mo (but as high as $200/mo). Thank god I have family near the Mexico border that can send me prescription drugs ever few months.

Yeah, your food and beverage choices are gonna **** for a while.

Kind of un-related, but if you have to eat oatmeal and don't like it at all (I hate it myself), go get some sugar free syrups from this website:

    http://www.davincigourmet.com/page.php?page=742&s=0&&category=2

and stir some in your oatmeal next time you have it. It makes it taste like ice cream, seriously. It's a great tip I learned when you have to eat extremely healthy, but don't want the food to taste disgusting, especially like when you're going into a bodybuilding contest or on a strict diet.

Sorry to hear about your ulcer, though. That really ****s.

  5. I had acid reflux real bad a few years ago, and I have a fairly high tolerance for pain ( I was married...) but I don't know how you guys with ulcers ever survived. The GERD was bad enough, I can't imagine an ulcer.

Take care and get better, real soon.

    WTF? Oatmeal is great
I let it sit overnight in a gl*** of water and drink it raw in the morning, its good for you!
And if you want a strict diet how is eating fish, chicken, fruits, vegetables ONLY for the rest of your life :( I cant even eat dried fruits or nuts! No shellfish/crustacians either...
God I want a hot dog so bad!!!

Everything was going great here then exactly 1 month ago i woke up in the we morning hours (about 1- 1:30 am) and told the wife we had a problem and i needed to get to the hospital. My chest and back were killing me and i had a terrible cough also. We got to the hospital and they asked me in the emergency room what was wrong i told em and I guess I told em i was getting dizzy and then I dont remember anything for 10 days. I had a m***ive heart attack then they transported me to another hospital and did angioplasty on me and put in a stent. Im lucky to be alive. My doctor told me quit smoking (been a month for that too) and he told me i would be in once a year for a physical. I never went to the doctor unless I felt bad.
It pays to get checked out im here to tell ya. Dont wait till the last minute. The bottom half of my heart was 100 percent blocked and thats what caused the problem. Its all better now I hope and ive been doing cardiac rehab 3 times a week and im down to 4 weeks to go. I go to see the doc next tuesday and hopefully find out when i can go back to work. Oh ya ive got a whole bunch of pills to take too and my diet ****s also. If it tastes like **** its prolly good for you.:)

Wow, that really ****s. I have a diet like that for around 4 months a year, but I couldn't do that for the rest of my life.

I guess you don't wanna hear that I am eating around 6000 calories/day for at least the rest of the year. :D

Nah, it actually sounds fun, but it has to be all clean foods (Chicken, lean steak, fish, fruits, veggies, oatmeal, potatoes, etc.) so it gets to be more of a chore and a pain in the *** having to eat that much clean food. Especially when you have to time your meals like clockwork. But I'm trying to gain 50 lbs, so you have to eat a ton of food at the right times to do so.

Anyways, I'm rambling too much off topic.

Get well soon El Caballo! :)

Hey El Caballo, what kind of symptoms did you have? Lately, I've been waking up in the mornings about 5 am and Ihave a sever headache, the headache goes straight to my stomach and mays me nauseus and I throw up for about 45 minutes. Sometimes I don't have an appe***e but, I know I need to eat but just don't have the desire to eat. Both my parents had cancer so I'm scared to death to go to the doctor for fear of bad news. Maybe you can share you experience and help an ole guy that's kinda freaked out. I pray for your recovery, thanks.

Actually I did that a few years back (had to stop all that because of dislocated spine). Its not the eating part that got me its the finding new exciting and healthy ways to cook all the food you have to consume.
It adds up quick too! Atleast I didnt eat 6 times a day I just ate 3 times a day and had two shakes inbetween with a fruit or something.
And not that **** you get at GNC either...
Dont get me started on those places...

"I'm scared to death to go to the doctor for fear of bad news."
Thats a common thing with alot of people but, the bad news usually comes from not going to the doctor and him telling you your ailement is too advance to do anything for you.
While your alive you've got hope and you can do something...
Btw that more then likely isnt stomach cancer not the right symptoms for it.

Haha, yeah, GNC really pushes Muscletech products, which are extremely overpriced.

  13. ElC... go to your doctor and get tested for H-Pilori (Pylori sp?)

I had that... and it eats away at your stomachs lining, and then... you get ulcers.

A LARGE portion of the people who get ulcers have H-Pilori... and a LARGE percentage of our population has H-Pylori... and they do not even know it.

It is transferred from people via FOOD... kinda gross.

I eat at a lot of Taco shops and Taco trucks...

Get checked... if you let your ulcers go too long... it can cause bad things to happen to your stomach lining...
    Sam.

H Pilori is exactly what I have. Believe me, I'm on mega-meds, 2000mg of Amoxicillin a day, 1000 mg of Biaxin and 60 mg of Prevacid. Plus the Phenobarb when things get rough.

They are working because I feel like new right now, a far cry from yesterday. Not to worry, I will finish all of the meds and not quit early.

Get Thyself to a doctor. Do not wait -- it only gets worse.

It could be something simple that's easily treated, but if you wait it could become 2-3 pills a day for the rest of your life.

    BTDT:rolleyes:

Don't wait until you have to be taken to the ER -- or the morgue -- it ain't worth it.
