Theres not alot of guys in this area into Hot Rods... I bought a truck from a lady a couple farms away and she said... You're not gonna turn that into one of those BUGS are you???

    A BUG?

I guess they kinda look like bugs when you pull the fenders off and just run headlights.

I am building a bug haha...

After back to the fifties TijauaJ and I thought we should team up on Thursday nights and help each other to get our projects done...

The idea gave birth to one of the funnest nights I've had in a long time...

Tijuana J, Big Worm and I started what were calling Thursday night Garage Night.

Just a night we can get together and help each other out on our projects... Jasons building a chopped A sedan... pics soon...

Last night was the first night... and it ruled. NO beer. haha... just water, dew, and green tea...

    and BURGERS at the A&W...
the guy that owns the AandDUB only hires cute girls... its so funny... its been like that since I was in High School... and I swear the could serve terrible food and people would still go there. Only... the food rules.

If anyone is near by and wants to swing out next Thursday thats totally cool... I have some tools here that might not fit in someones two car garage so your welcome to use them. Like the 6' box and pan...

We busted *** on the 34...

The steering is pretty much done. I need to make some minor adjustments, plugs, and tighten and its totally done.

I had the spring shop make the square U bolts for the front-
we hooked up the spring and located the 37 'ball' for the unsplit wishbones. We cut the ball out of the 37 ford X member and then welded it to the 34 X member. Its in the right spot, just needs gussets to be finalized.

Ben Carlson still had his drag link off his F-1 so we grabbed it, stretched it and sleeved it- using the big ball sockets. I love them. Thanks Ben.

We fabbed up a big U shaped loop for the drag link that bolts to the spindle. Its was overkill, but it totally looks like something made back in the day... and I didn't buy it from Speedway.

Actually so far there are only a couple small speedway parts... and I already had them... so they don't count. haha...

The 37 steering tie rod worked- just had to bring it in a little-

the dropped tie rod arms needed some work... the axle needed to be shaved a LOT so they would clear as these style alxes when dropped get really tight...

I also made the shift linkage for the shifter. IT SHIFTS!

So I'm getting close to driving it...

pedals are next/ along with the master and brakes and clutch...

    THEN... its on.
We already have the video planned... I heart UTUBE

I like taking pics of this thing... and since I had to roll it out this morning to clean here are some pics of the Stance. I would never build a car this tall... but I just love it.

I also pulled the dash and fixed the window regulator for the window, it cranks out nice.

Tuck , Sure enjoyed reading about your garage nite..Sorta made me feel like I was right there or wishing that I was..Having a garage nite in this area is like a thing of the past..Might have something to do with too many lawn chair nites ??!!..Your coupe looks like it's going to be a blast to drive..I bet you can't wait til you get someone that don't understand asking..." Hey , what color ya gonna paint err "

  7. You work too fast!! :D

I've been really enjoying the build and learning a ton. You sure got that '34 looking like a hotrod pretty fast.

Good luck with the future, I'll be tuning in.

Yo Tuck . . . so where are you located? I'm in St. Michael and would love to come out some Thursday night. While I may not be a skilled craftsman, I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty or bust my knuckles in the garage. Hell I'll even bring a 12 pack of frosty adult beverages to the "party" if ya want!

    lookin' good.....

here we go again.....sounding like forest gump (moma always says...)

anyway, the term "bug" is something i hear my grandpa say...."that car looks like a little bug".....he means it looks small and sneaky....he also uses it as a verb, "i'll bet that car can really 'bug' out!" i know there was a little cut down jalopy called the bug....i think it ran on the flats.....grandpa always tried to make his jalopies/bugs look like the "bug" he saw in an old magazine...

    too cool, dude!!!

The rear spring shackles, reminds me of the high school days in the late sixties when everyone who was anyone had them on their car to raise the ***end. Mine were on a 55 chevy tudor post.
Nice piece of work...great job. Keep the updates comming.

  20. I would guess that the bug she was referring to is a doodlebug... chopped down farm vehicle.

    That '34 blows my mind.

Wasn't "The Bug" the name of one of Ak Miller's cars? Kind of a model T roadracer or something? I remember reading about it in Hot Rod a year or so ago... just can't remember who's car it was.

I agree with Big A. I think those shortened up Model A's you see at farm auctions are refered to as "Doodle Bugs". You know the ones with the rear axle right behind the back of the seat, usually just the cowl forward for sheet metal. I always asked my Dad about them, I guess he made one on the farm out of a 51 Ford. There kind of like dune buggies.

    sorry for the hijack..

i forgot about the doodle bug tractors......that's probably more like what she was talking about...

you know, i don't know who's little cut down car that was...it was black and didn't have a radiator...just two cans/pipe welded upright and had the cooling hoses running into them..

i can't access my photos..i'm on an old laptop....my computer with all the pics....died....

OK- its hollow pipe with a treaded seamless sleeve in each end thats welded a half inch on the end- and pluged at the far ends... the bolts go in from the back side an inch and a half- its really stout. Welded a gusset on the bottom side to take the stress off the ball end.

Bull- I'm an hour north of st. paul, a hour south of Duluth, a hour and a half straight east of St.Cloud.

I'm like an hour from everywhere... if you want I can PM you directions- I'm probably a hour from you-

PINE CITY, Minnesota. Its funny knowing the name of where I live... and then looking at the pictures above with all the pine trees. I planted those trees when I was little and they grew up like weeds.

Kev, I would like to say yeah I'll have it there... but I'm gonna keep my mouth shut, I just dont wana jinx anything... Honestly I think the drags would be a blast. The first guy I would wana run is you!!! win/loose it would rule to watch to flatty powered cars burning down the strip!!

at***uder.. haha... if I were near some dunes... I would be there diggin a hole,-- a beach would be FUN like south padre island...

thanks guys glad youre diggin it-

I can't belive how fast that is comming together. Me and two of my pals started a garage night too, but ours is Wednesday and less equiped.....with poor lighting. I love it though, it's a nice break and some times we actually get stuff done.

Hell, I know where Pine City is. My family used to have some land there on the Snake River. Spent lots of time as a kid up there with my grandparents. Been to that A&W too I believe. We mostly hit up the diner in town though . . . what was it called again? The Park Diner?

Might be a bit of a drive for me from St. Michael, but it sounds like fun. Shoot me some directions and I may just have to make the trip . . . for nostalgic purposes! :)
