What do you do? You work on the car, engine or underneath and you touch it with your greasy hands? Or you spray the car and you get overspray on parts that just wont wipe off like on a clear coat. Satin finish paints are porous (sp?) and tough to get that grime out. What are your secrets? Wet sand, scrub pad? Acetone? Laquer Thinner? Soap and water? or just repaint I got a bit of overspary on mine and decided to wet sand w/ some 1500 grit paper. cleaned it up good considering all the try's w/ different chemicals.
Endust. Puts a little sheen on it but its easier to clean and still has that satin look to it. -Bigchief.
Believe it or not you can buff satin and or hand polish, keeps it clean and lookin new! I'm a profesional car detailer (my own business)
Armorall makes an all purpose cleaner in "wipe" form now... I'm addicted to them. They clean everything from dashes & seats to paint and chrome. I always have a bucket of them in my trunk... and I don't even clean my car much.
I think I know were chopped50ford is coming from. I have flat black on my A roadster and got a sunscreen palm print on it. Its like it changed the property of the paint. After 2 years, its still there
I 'wet' color sanded my car with 1500 grit paper Now its shiney Even some of the grease/oil spots didnt come out. ... damn porous paint
Wash my flattened nitrocelulose lacquer with whatever dish soap my wife uses, and that works good.( Sunlight I believe, about a tables**** in approx. 4 gallons water) Takes bug guts, hand prints and whatever road kill off that gets thrown up from the open wheels.
I used a cleaner wax on my DP40, you know the type "this cars hood has been in the desert for ** years" It took off all the greasy handprints, gave it a ***y low sheen and made keeping it clean a piece of cake.
My past satin primered cars, I have used Pledge or Endust which returns that black liquorish look. BUT-BUT-BUT BE FORE WARNED that if you ever want to paint anything on the body again, NOTHING chemical will remove enough of the wax and oils in the Pledge or Endust as you are right is is pourous. You have to media /soda blast the primer paint off and start over. Sealer primer seals it to the metal, but the oils/wax have bled into the primer. Hope this helps. Cob Forum Moderator
What Mikey said....I used to and still wash my truck with comet but when I get greasey hand prints on it I tried scrubbing it. It polished the satin finish. Then I tried simple green and it came right off. Clark
my buddy Buzz painted his 41 Ford pickup with NAPA black engine enamel. It touches up easily and has the right black look....daily driver and takes care of all the s****es from the kid's bicycles....
