426 Hemi’s, I saved this photo years ago, maybe 2013? I think I know what these were used for, but would anybody care to venture a guess? I will say it is not a factory dyno cell, and not a reliability test.
I’ll divulge the answer later tonight.

I looked high and low for the photo and especially the caption and can’t find where it was that I originally saw it.
IIRC the hemi’s were used by a govt. agency, maybe the NHTSA, to power the equipment that yanked the cables to propel vehicles for crash testing. I wish I had a more definitive answer but I cannot find the source of the photo.

 

Pretty Cool. Another way the mighty Hemi destroyed the other makes.

The old drives were two inches. They were also half inch pitch. Today's drives are three inches and most commonly 8mm. The two inch stuff is very collectable. If its magnesium it gets even more expensive.
